Chip in windshield

Chip in windshield
I was just driving to work when the car in front of me kicked up a nice rock right onto my windshield resulting in a nice chip near the middle of it. I was wondering if getting the chip "filled in" will help prevent it from forming into a growing crack- I dont want to end up replacing the entire windshield as i know it costs major money. thanks guys

If you do a repair get it done as quickly as possible as dirt can get in the crack that difficult to remove and you don't want the crack to spread. They have DIY kits but I don't know if I would try it myself.

I waited while the repair was made. It didn’t take long. The chip repair was invisible – totally. Two years later when I sold the car, the windshield was still in perfect shape. I know that I was impressed.
