haha... thats what the dealer told me... and next time when the light is on. they will not fix it under warrenty. :o i am only running 1 amp and 2 10". AND i have a capacitor. i don't get how that will draw too much voltage from the battery. sigh...

Don't know if it was a similar problem, but if a plug on the back of the trim piece around the radio comes loose, the SRS warning light comes on.

I have the exact same problem as you silviac32.

In november I had my 800 watt amp installed. Just ran a line level convertor off the HU, and ran power from the battery to trunk,

MY srs light when on after they fixed my steering wheel buttons. Its been in twice to get fixed but hasnt.

Then last month while the light was still on i said **** it and got my indash dvd installed. So no more stock stereo.

Now when I went in they claim its that and they wont fix it.

I dont knowwhat to do, only when I buckle up it comes on, and its purley random, sometimes it doenst sometimes it does.

If you have an SRS light on, I don't think they're allowed to give you your car back until they fix the problem, because it is a safety issue. You might get in an accident and your airbags might not work. I'm not sure of the exact rules on this, but I have seen it happen where someone could not have their car until the problem was fixed.

well.... i didn't have the problem before... not until i entered a car show. i had to unplug the instrument cluster fuse. since they want us to have 1/4 of fuel or less. but i had JUST refueled. and there is no way i could burn a whole tank w/in 1-2 hrs. well.... i didn't tell the dealer that. i guess i should of though.

As the second poster said, there is a plug on the back of the trim plate that is in the center console surrounding the head unit. If that plug is disconnected then the system errors. For those of you with intermittent problems, reseat the plug.

Check to see if there is a wire that goes to the car's CAN-BUS system at the back of the radio. Usually (on Metra adapter plugs)there is a loop of wire at the adapter plug for you stereo, assuming that you used one. On VW's this is what we call the K-wire. This wire loop must be cut or it sends the data signal to ground shorting out the data bus system. It has been known to cause some weird electrical problems that are not directly atribiuted to the stereo HU itself. This is why the dealer gave you a hard timeas it WILL also fry the computer that the dealer hooks up to your car.

My Passat W8 has a glitch where it says the hood is open and they have replaced all the components associated with the hood latch and alarm control module. They now say it is a short in the Radio as the radio provides some of the processing power to the data bus system. This is one of the problems that has prompted me to get VW to do a buy-back. I will be moving over to a 2002 C230k when the deal is closed. Gotta love them Lemon-laws!

many thanks.

Still haven’t resolved this yet. The plugs on the back of the trim pictured only go in one way so you can’t mix these up. However, there is a phone like jack in the center console that is supposed to trigger the SRS. I’ve not checked to see if mine was disconnected.

On my W203 C220 I haven't Seen the connector with yellow arrow.
I think that the connector with red arrow was connected at the rear of my previous AUDIO 10 and now it is not connected anymore.
For green connector it looks like Can Bus connector

The green wire is the one that will cause the error if not connected. I didn’t remove my console so I don’t know how mine can be disconnected.

it seems to be a canbus related issue.

I don't think so it's about CAN bus.
SRS message is related of SECURITY like seat belt and Airbag

The RJ11 jack to the right in the red circle is what I’m talking about. I read that if this is not connected you’ll get an SRS error. I’m going to check my center console when I get a chance. Notice it’s connected in the front of the center console. The area worked on when replacing the radio.

Hi guys,

Just to inform that I HAD the FUC**** SRS error message, just after replacing the radio.
And after 1 month, I bought a AUTEL MaxiDIAG MD808 PRO (290€) and deleted it.
No more FUC**** SRS !
