Oil/Gear Oil/Fluid recommendations
What are the recommended weights
for motor oil ( I think 5W30),
and transmission and differential oils for manual transmission cars.
I remember reading 80W90 for the rear, but no mention of transmission oil.
Thanks
Bora

I'll get the answer...
...by going out to the garage and pulling out the manual.
From the booklet entitled Factory Approved Service Products [my copy was dated 6/01]:
Motor oil is practically any synthetic - 5/30, 5/40, 10/40, 0/40, 15/50, or 5/50 [which is what we use - Castrol Syntec].
Differential oil is 85/90.
The only approved fluid for a manual trans is MB Manual Transmission Fluid, Part no 001-989-26-03.
In the ancient days of my last manual trans diesels [the late '70s], MB was actually using their ATF in the manual boxes; I have no idea how the recommended stuff above differs from whatever is out there in the general market, but I personally would never put anything in it that is not MB-approved.
This booklet also contains all of the recommended stuff for every system in the car. If your car was not delivered with a copy, you should get one from your dealer.

I will check with the dealer about getting one.
I was planning on using Redline MTL in the transmission, but now I have to check.
