2002 C230 Coupe...she's dead Jim!
Well, it's been a harrowing couple of weeks.
I moved in my with my GF....
we moved from near the coast to San Joser as
we got close the deadline to move and didn't have a place, we had to expand
our net so speak.
The new world of rentals on craigslist thoroughly sux, with no phone number, no addresses, and when you do manage to get an email or ph #
the response you get still lacks critical info.
Lazy property manager who don't return calls, and owners who do showings on Jan 31 adds to the excitement.
In any case, it's been a roller coaster, with me practically unable to spend any time looking a job, trying to get unpacked, and
keeping the GF happy, which seems to be all but impossible.
Add to that, no internet access or TV at home, + the GF's obsession with
making the place 'just so' constantly making lists of sh_t to buy, and
my belongings not being adequate, is driving me nuts!
In any case while driving from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz one night in the rain, the APS light same on, and I had ABS, BAS, ESP not available lights
flashing on the screen.
I made it 'over the hill' and she didn't go into limp mode,
but any attempts to accelerate quickly made the car go ug...
like when the ESP kicks in.
So, it was a matter of being just so when driving,
if I'd had to accelerate quickly I'd have been screwed.
I also got a CEL, so I read that out, and had a P0500 which mentions a wheel sensor. Not such a big deal if thats all it is.
So, I left it parked for a couple days, since I had to drive the van, and she brought her car.
I went to pick it up Weds. and it started, but nothing on the instrument panel lit up!
Arrggh, and no turn signals either. And the headlights coming on automatically. Woa.
Yikes! So I'd already talked to Rick at Ricks Mercedes in Scotts Valley to read out which wheel sensor was acting up...
He hooked up the star system on Weds, and we checked the fuses for the instrument panel, nothing...
He couldn't read squat because the car was spewing so many CANBUS errors, and
then when he shut off the engine it decided not to start!
I went over and bought a GOOD bottle of tequila and we sat and drank for a while till the GF got back from her manicure.
Anyway, apparently yesterday, he was futzing with it off and on all day, and suddenly it decided to start and the instrument panel lit up!
I stopped in at the end of the day Fri., and he said they were going to call the priest to do the exorcism!
In any case, the only things different lately are the fact the the front
bumper cover got caught on a tree root, and got pull off on the left front, which I repaired, and also there was some water under the rear seats!
Not sure what caused that....it's been raining cats and dogs here for days.
At least at my new place I have a garage...ha by the time I get all the boxes out to make room for her.
Well, 150K + miles and now this....

Out Of Control!!
Sounds like the car is the least of your worries. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
That's weird about the car, but happy to hear that it started.
Honestly, sounds like you could use a heart-to-heart with the GF before things get more serious.

Sorry to hear about the car Todd.
Let us know what you find out, and good luck with the GF.
At least you know that eventually you will be able to fix the Car!
Thanks,
Dave

personally id suspect the water under the rear seats as the electrical troubles
where are the sunroof drains for this car are they clear?? my acura had water inside the car as the drains were all plugged once fixed no more water
I bet if you get the water dried up your troubles will go away BUT you need to inspect the harness where it was wet for dammage and seal it back up so as to prevent shorts
electrical troubls are lots of fun......
years ago i had to trace each and every wire in the engine harness of my wifes neon (her 1st car) took us 2 weeks to find the short but we did!
good luck!!

The rear seat is wet,... the SAM is near the rear seat,.... ![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
As I recalled, you had a heck of a time 6 months ago trying to figure out how to align your hatch. Maybe that's causing a leak. Check the seals.

That sucks man, but at-least you got 150k from it, I always was told the early model c's 04 and older, you where lucky if they ran after 50K. 150k is allot! Im sure you will get it fixed, with the technical excellence of the people on here. Maybe you should price out a rear SAM and employ your gf to sit in the hatch while all the trim and head liner is off, and find where that leak is, a leaky car with electronics like an MB is akin for trouble.

Can't say much about the GF, she looks over my shoulder all the time!
I guess something got wet, it came back to life, so, it' now officially the
Jesus Benz, and we were able to read the ECU and find the rear wheel sensor that was bad, so I'm back to where I was, with a constant ESP error, which
I also found is due an lateral motion sensor under the rear seat/axle, but thats 500 and I'm not replacing it.
I'm picking it up today, and get my smog too, since I'm late on the registration!
