Except that its 1/2 hour labor to hook the computer up. That's what my dealer charges (unless thay have to hook the computer up for some other warranty item, then its free).

If that were true, then they wouldn't charge for xenon present, which most do. Makes no sense to me, but we're at their mercy. My dealership didn't charge for deleting the "No Phone" message - of course, until I showed them the instructions, they said it couldn't be done.

jlm - ay, que lastima! No puedes leer?
I threw a link to it on my first post here, but here are the instructions:
With DAS:
Control Units -> Info. and comms. -> ICM -> Control Unit Adaptations -> Version Coding -> Optional Equipment
You will be presented with a menu of options- all are either "PRESENT" or "NOT PRESENT". Select "NOT PRESENT" for the cellular telephone and the MFD display goes away. Pressing either of the two phone buttons on the wheel results in: "FUNCTION NOT AVAILABLE" on the MFD- then it goes away in a few seconds.
There you go. Good luck training your dealership in how to do it.

What if one were to "accidentally" leave their gas cap off and trigger a "gas cap loose" error code?
Then when one took the car in for warantee to fix the "check engine" error, politely ask the serviceman, "would you mind... since you're going to hook it up to the computer anyway???"

Hand Free Phone on 05 C230
I didn't get the expansive Hand Free "Mercedes" Motorola V60 phone that allow me to use the number key pads on my car, and the phone buttons on my steering wheel.
However, I recently just got a Motorola V600 phone, would I be able to have them hook up similar feature for my Benz?
P.S. has anyone here hook up their phone to their car w/o buying the "Mercedes V60" phone from the dealer?

Even if the phone were compatible (i'm not saying it isn't, i don't know), I think there's still other electronics they need to install to make the phone link-up work that is relatively expensive. I don't think it's just a matter of plugging in the phone.

Thanks, can more people confirm if this is true? I mean it would make sense if a cable is all that is required to use the phone.
For example, like how you would connect your laptop to your cell phone to gain access to internet. And I'm just trying to dial my phone using the key pads on my dash. It would make sense that they need to install a "Microphone" some where and I can just use the stereo speakers for sound.
The rest such as connectivity I can just use the phone it self through a cable adaptor that connects the phone to the car somewhere?
Should i expect Mercedes to have a "complex system" installed in order to achieve this? (maybe thats why the phone opion cost like $1500 from the dealer?)

There is a lot of information that is correct for pre MY '05 vehicles. To date, I have not seen anyone state that any aftermarket system has been proven to work with MY '05 vehicles.
The next step, after establishing basic functionality for the MY '05 vehicles, are all the "extended" functions, such as the steering wheel controls and the COMMAND controls. I would like to have the phone exchange information with the vehicle, once it is snapped into the cradle. I would like the caller ID names, stored in the phone, to show up on COMMAND and on the instrument cluster display.
Yes, MY 05 vehicles are prewired, presumably the antenna, UHI connector and microphone, but the MOST module is a $765 option, that does NOT include the phone or the cradle. My guess is that the phone and cradle may be also added for under $1K, once available at some point in the not-to-distant future.

I'd like to be able to get an aftermarket solution to the phone as well... Hopefully there'll be one soon.
Wingless, that's a lot more info than I got from the dealer. My dealer didn't know what was up with the MY05 phones at all.
One thing that strikes me as odd is that why is MB prewiring all these MY05's? I'm not complaining b/c mine is prewired, but it just doesn't make any sense. MB is doing almost everything to cut costs, and only 1 out of 30 (I'm being very generous) owners will get the phone option from them. Why go to all that trouble and spend all that money prewiring for an option that most people won't even get or think of spending on (mainly due to the price and crappy phones)? They could have put digital climate controls instead of prewiring. Or they could have done what Acura did and put in Bluetooth, at least this way, they wouldn't force customers to use outdated phones such as the v60 and dare I say it v600 (no offense). Their phone strategy and cost cutting just makes no sense at all to me.
P.S. As far as the phones are concerned, I was really pissed off in previous years that they required you to use the MB v60. The dealer and service depts. gave me the song and dance that the MB v60 has special HARDWARE that can only be used with the car's system. I'm sure that there is a flex/flash file around that can change the normal v60's and have them work with the MB system. I hope they don't repeat that same mistake now... The way they've integrated the system now is just too sweet to pass up. That's the only reason why I'm keeping my old v600--I don't mind breaking it by trying to flash and flex it to work with a possible car system.

The local MB parts guy just got an update that the MB T710 phone will be available at the end of September / Beginning of October for $1,000. The cradle is another $200 and the MOST interface is an MB option, priced at $765.
