My alternator light came on

I bought my 2005 C240 back in October. I drove it 10k with no issues until yesterday at exactly 10k more at 59k My alternator light came on. It said batter/Alternator visit workshop. Took it in and ordered a new one. Does this seem a little bit low miles for one to be going though?

I replaced my alternator at about 93k miles, and when I did I realized that the noise that I thought was the supercharger was actually a bad alternator bearing - and it had been making the noise since new...

It does seem a bit early for an alternator to fail, but whether it's early or late is beside the point - it failed, it's being replaced, end of story.

We have had cars where it will last well over 100k and then on some other cars like this 05 c240 or our Nissan it would go out at like 60-70k. Weird

My ex has a 98 Camry with over 200k miles on the original alternator. The highest mileage 2005 model car I know of on this board belongs to a member with the username Scottisha. It's an 05 C230K with over 200,000 miles. The original alternator lasted until 130k, IIRC. Supposedly if a bearing on the alternator goes out, it can take out the A/C compressor.

At 75,700 my alternator is original and per the dyno mode charges at 14.1-14.2V steady during motion. You should've checked your alternator charging volts when you got that warning.

My Alternator always showed 14.1 - 14.2 volts but battery kept getting weaker - Even the new battery (1 month old) is weak now - So I just swapped out the alternator yesterday (someone suggested alternator might not be putting out enough amps) - What are your thoughts ? In the dyno mode with new alternator (remanufactured actually), when I turn headlights on & heated seats on, the voltage dips down to 13.9 and stays there ------ the old one used to take a dip to say 13.8 and then jump back to 14.1 -------- do you see a problem with either one ?
