rainy day boredom...

So between brief moments of hurricane force rains, hail, and sunny weather in oh-so-great-Southern California, I got bored and decided to take a photo or two after trying to shop at the mall and having a failure to purchase anything.
It was around 7pm with very little light out so I had to crank the ISO on my 50D.
Car is fairly stock and dirty from the rain but I just figured I'd share it.
(according to Karo, my model is pretty tough to find.. C320 sport w/ black leather int and fully loaded... most people just got E classes lol)
Thanks for looking.

I like the shot, but for some reason it looks weird to me. I can't quite put my finger on it, it just seems a little artificial. Is it an HDR or just a lot or PP?

Actually, I only used Photoshop to blur my license plate and ran an auto script to resize. There were no lightroom adjustments and it's not HDR.
Shot the photo at 1/4 sec f/8.0. Focal length was 24mm, ISO 2500 and no flash. I shot it using a Canon 50D and Canon 24-70 f2.8 L lens. It was handheld so there's a slight blur to some detail tho.

I tried shooting at 1/2sec and F/10, ISO 3200 and color was so nice but it was grainy and that half second was sooo blury. (this one is blury, so i left a thumbnail. lol

1. He shot at the VERY end of the golden hours. taking photos during dusk/dawn tend to yield the best results.
2. He shot in high iso, which makes things grainy
3. He shot in high iso WITH a long exposure (for handheld shots)

Not saying that the factors above are the complete reason the picture came out the way it did, but it sure has an effect on it.

I'm surprised you got that steady of a shot with 1/4. Looks good! i love white cars.

Ok... Looking at it some more I think I figured out why it looks weird... Your tint is so dark and the headlights are slightly over exposed. This is why it looks like its an HDR.

As for noise try "Noise Ninja" it works great!

Here is a quick shot I took one night just playing around with our cameras...
The red arrows indicate areas where Noise Ninja was applied. No other PP was done, straight out of camera with in camera NR turned off

Shot at 28mm f/1.7, 1/4000s, ISO 12800, no flash

Yah, cranking the ISO high and opening the shutter for long periods opened me up to a good amount of color. I didn't even take time to process them in Lightroom or use any of my NIK software collecting including Dfine and all... I was just too lazy to shoot it. lol. Sometimes, I'll just cheat with my S90 and turn the knob on creative mode lol.
