That doesn't look too bad. But if you get a chance, take a pic during the daytime. Also, you could try painting it black and it would look a lot like the mesh grilles that MB uses. But it looks kinda nice in silver too.

Yeah it was just gettin dark as i finished up

Ill take a daytime pic tommorw, they seem to look pretty decent or else i would take them off. I used a small piece of steel wire in each corner to fasten it to the plastic behind, and u cant even notice it since it matches the color

I was thinking the other day about just taking the black pieces off the front (if possible) and painting them silver to match my car.

I'd like to hear more about the process you followed to do this, as it looks great, and I want to try something similar soon.

Post more pics!

That looks great! Where did you get that stainless steel material? I'm from NJ as well. Was it hard to cut and fit?

Hey everyone, sorry ive been busy all day.

Anyways, materials cost less than 10 bucks if that, you will need the stainless steel grating avaialbe at any homedepot of hardware store, and get a roll of thin steel wire.

Cut with tinsnips, extremly easy to cut, and i just looped and fastened the pieces on with 2 pieces of little steel wire, you can barely see it and i think it looks very professional.

There is no tow hooks down there

Hi again, you just place the silver ones ontop of the black and fasten them with the steel wire, trust me it looks perfect.

Do you mind to post a close shot day time pic of the mesh when you have a chance? I want to know what kind of mesh do you have. Thanks!

What did you use for stencils for the black pieces? Or did you take them out? Were you concerned about restricted air over the intercooler?

I would be interested in a close-up as I have 2 questions about the sensors up front.

1. What are the various sensors that protrude from the black grill? There are 3? 4? I'd have to go check...
2. Depending on what these sensors are for, the mesh grill may hamper them, have you noticed anything strange with readings on the display?

Also if one of those sensors is for ambient light to turn the lights on in auto mode... could I just simply tape it up so the lights stay on all the time? or is that sensor on the hood as I thought I'd read before???

Without actually checking, I think there is only one sensor. This is the outside temperature sensor. There are some other holes in the black pieces, but those are for aiming the fog lights. There may be some other stuff too, but I would have to check.

I will take a day pic asap, its beeen rainin all day so it wouldnt look good.

Anyways, there is only 1 sensor on the left front mesh, and it is the outside temp, i just notched out the space for it on the stainelss steel mesh.

everything is working perfect, and i doubt it hampers flow to the intercooler, since air will still pass through. Not positive tho, there are NO problems with it, it just loosk great.

I made the stencils by just tracing and eyein it. came out nice.

Going to Home Depot but just wondering what to even ask for or what section to look in. I've been to Home Depot before and never seen that kinda grating, nor do I know what it'd be used for...

Its by gutter cleaning stuff, they are grates used to prevent **** from goin in your gutters, they are stainless steel, wont rust at all, and look great and shiny especially on my silver car.

I looked at doing this mod then realised, unless the mesh is tied down VERY well the mesh will shift, and then if you haven't spent the time to grind every end piece, the sharp pieces would eventually scratch the paint, so I scrapped the project until I could either get a dremel or find a better solution.

I like it, except for a black car I think this part of the grill looks better in silver, stainless look.

Well my car has been in the shop for about 4 weeks now for srs failure. Im not sure whats going to happen with my car. But the grates held up perfectly fine for me. I might be taking them off tho becasue my car is probably going to be taken back by mbusa. It was in 7 times for teh airbag light, and nowthey took my whole interior apart.

Oh well, im drivin a clk 320 now and im happy.
