Proper name for $4000 and $1500 subsidies

I just visited a local MB dealer here in San Diego. ( Test drove C320 coupe. )
When we talked about price the salesman did not know about either the 4000 or 1500 that MB pays to dealers. He was truly curious, so we went to his boss. The boss played ignorant for a minute about the 4000 until I was able to desribe it clearly enough , then asked me how I found out. I told him ( not the exact URL ), and he said, clearly disgusted: "Everybody knows everything now!"
He then tried to cover for himself by saying that they sell at $3500 below MSRP, implying that I was getting most of the $4000.
Next I tried the 1500, but got nowhere. The problem was that I couldn't describe it well enough to force him to choose between lying to me ( in front of other employees ) or admiting that it exists.

So, what exactly is the name for each of these?
Thanks

Ps: Thanks to whoever it was who posted about these initially.

2003 silver c230k coupe
I don't remember the article location. But it is an article in a Febraury Autoweek issue. I used Google.com and type in "Autoweek m-b or mercedes" That led me to one of the two articles which mentioned the M-B rebate program.

I bought my C230k coupe from EuroMotorcars in Bethesda, Maryland about 10 days ago with the $4000 rebate. Mine has 18 miles on it. MSRP was $29,200. I got it for $23,500 plus tax and $25 processing fee. They had about 20 C-coupes at that time, all with $5500-$6000 discount from MSRP.

You can also go the Ebay.com and look for a M-B C-class. It lists at least two base C coupe at $19,990! You can buy it now. I think they are using the dealer demo rebate as well.
