a quarter mile at a time
ebay keys will NOT work (unless you're really good at soldering)

Smart Keys cannot be re-programmed, even at the dealership

If your keys work randomly you need to look into your batter or possible (IIRC) your front SAM which controls all that fun stuff. You cannot get a new MB smart key from anywhere but the dealer if you expect it to work, they code the key and the key standard is cut for your car, all the ones on ebay are used, they are single burn chips inside that cant be changed.

The only thing you can do is have old keys removed from coding in the car incase one is lost or stolen.

I just ordered one 180 bux. They average around 200 mark Im told. You will need your license and current registration to get one, it usually takes 3 days to receive.

I was under the impression that the rear SAM controlled the smart key functions, or is that just the signal itself from the key that the rear SAM controls?

...a panty dropper...
Even with the older version you can't just swap out the removable back and expect it to work. These keys are unique and need programing. My dog just chewed on my key fob about 30mins ago and now I need to order a new one from the dealer. Lucky me!!

yeah I am not sure, thats why I prefaced with IIRC, I know the rear sam controls the doors locks ect, but I thought the front one actually controlled the ignition some one will know and chime in im sure
