C230 Coupe 2002
Question Radio Removal-Console

I am a do it your selfer and new to MB. My other toy is a Super charged Miata that I have owned since 90. I can take this car apart blindfolded. My coupe though being new is a different question. No manual out yet and I want to put a CB radio in and was wonderig how the console comes apart to get the radio out and mount the CB under it. Just a quick look and I don't see any screws to remove. It is like they pushed everything together with clips. I don't want to break anything so any help will be appreciated. By the way after looking at the forum for some time now it looks as though some guys are haveing problems with their cars. I bought this car for what it is and how it feels not thinking of reliability. My Mazda has been bullet proof with 185,000 klms on it and Supercharged since 30,000. This car wasn't built with a Supercharger and still doesn't use oil.

To remove the radio, you need radio removal keys. They slip into the little holes on the bottom of the radio unit and you pull on the keys to release the clips holding the radio in. The picture below is of a MCS unit in a ML. Notice the keys at the bottom of the radio unit.

Picture of radio keys... You can get them at any dealer for a couple of bucks.

The coupe does not use those keys for radio removal. You have to take off the aluminum trim on the console to get the radio out. Search the forum and you should be able to find some pretty detailed instructions on how to do it.

Matt, I can't believe I forgot that... After seeing Steve install about 10 Comands in C classes, you would think I would never forget... Sorry, removal of the front console trim is necessary to remove the coupe radio.

The C class does not use radio removal keys. For instructions on how to remove the radio, see this thread.
