New Windshield!!!

I am so PISSED!! Today when I got home I noticed a CRACK in my windshield. I was driving all day and nothing unusual happened as far as rocks flying or anything. I wasn't even on the freeway. The crack comes from the seal down about 6 inches in an arc. There is a TEEEENY DOT where a pebble must have hit the window just right. I have window chips bigger than that. Is this unusual? I mean, how can it crack when I can't even see the chip mark???
Also, I have a $500 deductible on my comprehensive coverage, and I know MB will charge an arm and a leg to replace it. I called one glass place and got an estimate of $500 to replace the windshield (with RainSensor), but I am nervous about anyone other than MB doing the job. I would rather NOT go through my insurance, but if I have to I will...
Any advice would be appreciated..

I've got my windshield cracked about 4 weeks ago while driving on a freeway -- damn Jeeps... anyhow, called my insurance the very same moment, they said that they found only one company in my area that can replace MB windshields. Got it replaced for about 500 (windshield + labor). They did an AWESOME job, they even put that MB sticker onto it It comes with the WS...

You can call your dealer and ask them who they can recommend. Believe me, you are not the first

What happened to the good ole days when the insurance companies would only charge $50 for a windshield replacement? I guess they were loosing too much money.

My windshield cracked about a year ago or so. There was no evidence of any chip or other damage to cause it. I took it to the dealer, they checked it out, agreed it was defective, and replaced it under warranty. Can't hurt to try. I understand others have had defective windshields in the Coupe, too.

It depends on your individual coverage -- you have a choice. I have $50 deductible for non-collision (comprehensive). $500 deductible is of course cheaper to buy.

Actually, I don't have any deductible for windshield repair or replacement... I pay nothing. I called the dealer and they told me who to use, my insurance uses them too so I am covered.

My body shop say the new windshield with sensor only cost 385 dollars...
