Importing a C32 AMG into Canada
hey guys, so i was just searching and since my car has hit 152,000km which is about 94000miles and i think thats a lot i wanna sell it and import one from the U.S. Since there so much cheaper there than here and in Canada theres like only 4 within 400 miles from me plus there not cheap..Any advice or good deals you guys see near toronto or northern u.s. let me know. Also if anyone knows the details on how much it will cost and proceudres it takes would be appriected. Thanks

it's probably not worth it. I heard canada has heavy import taxes on US cars to prevent people going south over the border to buy US cars in the canadian border states, since there still cheaper then in Canada.
You might also need to pay to have the US c32 up to Canadian driving standards. For example the US c32's do not have the DRL's. I guess you can just aftermarket lights and run the city lights, but i would do the research.
There's more too it just bringing it over the border and registering it or I would just import a skyline from canada and drive that around in the US.

You should go for an E55, sell yours, save up. I saw this 03 E55 in Autotrader with 100K mileage, fully loaded, for 28K.

Just answered this on the other MB forum, but here's a link below that may help. MB's especially require a lot of retrofit work that can only be done at a Canadian MB dealer. Can you get permission to bring the car in for a limited time, like a year or so and say you are in Canada temporarily? Many countries give waivers for temporary use.

I say dump the C32 in the U.S., buy a 2010 Camaro SS in Canada, I believe they are made there

oh you mean the auto on option right? I hate that setting. I'm always afraid the car will auto turn on the lights when i park my car or it'll turn on when i'm in a dark parking lot.

Its not as hard as everyone says. More or less you need a new gauge cluster and bumper cover, and an inspection. The dealer will charge about $4k for this but you could do the bumpers yourself and save some money.
A friend of mine imported a 2006 ML in 2008 and it went pretty smoothly. Might not be worth it for a C32 but something a bit more expensive like a C55 or just a 2010 C300 it would be worth it.
