Tools for Brake Pad replacement
Tools for Brake Pad replacement
I need to replace the brake pads on my 2001 C240. I usually have all my tools but have recently moved into an apartment and all my tools are in storage 2 hours away. Can someone help me out and let me know what tools (and size) I need to replace the brake pads on my C240?
The sensor recently came on and the pads are ready to be replaced.
Thank you in advance!

you just doing the pads? no rotors?
for a floating caliper - no pins to punch out just screws to unbolt.
when you buy pads from the dealer, the front pad kit comes with pads, backing paste, slide screws and the bracket slides for the caliper bracket.
That way you can use the screws in the kit to verify what I think is a 12mm socket I'll verify.
Double check at the dealer with your vin but my 2002 only used one pad sensor on the right front wheel.
You'll need a large C-clamp - 8 inches long approx - to press the pistons back into the caliper, and a small siphon to extract some fluid from the reservoir so it won't overflow when piston is pressed back into the caliper - some people can do it with a large screwdriver and the discs as a pressure point to press the piston in - I can't do that.
the slide pin bolts torque to I think 45 ft lbs - I'll verify
a wrench for the lug nuts,
maybe a bungee cord to tir the caliper up when you fit the pads in - but I just rest the caliper on the brake shield.
when doing rotors and rears I needed an 12, 16 and 18 mm socket.
I can't remember if the front slider pins bolt is 12 or 16 - I'll verify on Sunday
18 mm socket for the caliper bracket - rotor replacement only.
If you have fixed calipers you'll need punch and hammer to drive the pins out.
