Oil change question, please

I have 1000 miles on my C32 and want to change the oil myself. Anything special to do? This is my first Mercedes, so not familiar with the location of filter canister and how to deal with it. Any percautions, etc when changing the oil?I live in SC, going to put 15-50 Mobil 1. I have the oil filter and the little washer. Help here on anything different to do. Thanks!

Changing the oil is pretty simple. Pick up a oil filter removal tool from a local auto supply place or the dealer. My dealer charged me approx $10.00 for the tool. The oil filter is located at the front drivers side of your engine. It looks like a octagonal black plastic cap. The oil filter is located in this assembly. You will need to unscrew the assembly, remove the old filter and the four old rubber washers. Then replace the assembly in reverse and tighted to 25nm.

Here is a link that should give you more than enough information:

Thanks for the post. I noticed that the original filter had plastic ends, looked a little better made than the one the dealership sold me for replacement. Your photo shows the type filter the replacement was and eased my mind a little. I have never seen such a contraption for an oil filter! Putting the oil in now.

Mercedes Germany uses 3 manufactures for the oil filters. The one most commonly seen from the factory has the black plastic ends. The one most commonly found here in the US from Mercedes as a replacement has the white flat ends. Both work equally as well. I don’t have any idea what the 3rd manufacture's filter looks like, as I have never seen it.

Each different manufacture's filter has a different part number on the actual filter itself. The key to getting the right filter for your vehicle is the part number on the box of the filter you got.

Thanks, that eases me even more. It fit right on and no problem and no leaks. Clean car, 1000 miles, clean oil and filter, ready to ride! Fast ride too!

You may be wondering, "How the heck does this guy know all this"... Well, I too was perplexed when I went ti change my oil at 1,000 miles and saw the filter was different. So, a few calls to Mercedes and I got all the answers I just filled you in on.

Again thanks. I am into the Corvette world and serve as the National Corvette Museum Ambassador for the C5 Registry. I am a member of several great forums that offer a wealth of information. So far, in the Mercedes world, this is the best one I have found. Not the # of people I am used to having with the Corvette, but similiar format and easy to navigate here. I have an 01 Speedway white Z06 and now the C32 AMG. Really thrilled with the performance of both. Tough decision on which to drive! The AMG is deceivingly fast, hit the pedal, feels like you are launched from a rocket! Automatic is a change for me, I could get used to it again.
Thanks again!
