I dont know but yea, my 2002 C230 performance sucks!!!

I raced with a BMW 328 the old models box type at the stop light... he won by one car lenght... couldnt catch up to him...

I have a 6 speed

Also i tested my car from a stop light and 1st gear goes up to 30MPH before it red lines... Is that correct?

I notice a bit slower performance after my Service A which was a couple days ago... Prob its just me...

Have to disappoint you, but this car is not meant to be a drag racer. Strange that you didn't notice it when you test drove it at the dealer (you did test drive it, right?). Some reading prior to buying would have helped, too.

I also noticed that the performance dropped a bit after service A. My guess is they put Mobil 1 15W50 - thicker oil compared to what was put at the factory. 0W40 is hard to find in the US.

pick on someone your own size

if have a c230 you may take on a 325i, c320 a 328i, and c32 a M3.
that should make for beter race. i'm not so sure about the c240 but maybe 318i.:p

Is this some late April fool's joke?
How fast would someone be going at the end of such a foolish street drag race? 60mph? Faster? At that speed, the difference between a car length is probably less than a half a second.
Yea... 0-60 time of 7 seconds vs. 7.5 seconds would make me regret a purchase, NOT.

Look dude, a 328 is mid 6s car and the C230 just can't hang w/it in stock form. Either chose your battles more wisely, get a pulley and maybe a chip for good measure or continue to admire their tail lights!

Cars you can step to IMO:
325
A4 1.8T maybe the 2.8 but stay away 3.0s I think
GTI, JETTA any trim pretty much
New mazda 6- either engine I believe

Sadly most of the new Japanese cars equipped their
beefy sixes WILL smoke us read:
Altima 3.5
Maxima
G35
CL-S
Accord V6 may even stomp you if you're not on your game
the coupe with the 6 speed certainly will
these along with the obvious new budg hot rods:
WRX, Neon SRT, you get the picture.
Ofcourse there is always the X factor- the driver. If you're good you shouldn't get too embarrassed. To me losing by a car length to 60 or 80 isn't really too bad to some of these, 328 inclusive. Just keep it in perspective, have fun and be safe.

Unless you're driving an AMG, the comparable BMW will beat you everytime. BMWs are designed for performance driving, MBs are designed with a mix of luxury, comfort, and performance, with a focus on comfort, not performance.

What's sad is when you're going to see a RXS Type-S and a Dodge SRT (aka Neon) starting to dominate even the BMW. A few more ponies in the RSX and it'd beat most 3-series for $10-5K less. The Dodge SRT with 215 HP but 240 lb/ft torque is going to be a monster on the street, 5.5s 0-60, your MB is going to start losing to a $20K US domestic car! and losing by 2-3 car lengths!

Remember, you bought an autobahn cruiser, this car is designed to excell at 60-100+ for passing cars.

Get over it, if you bought the MB for performance, you didn't do your research and no-one is going to feel sorry for you.

I wouldnt say u're retarded but if you even bothered to do a check on the net the 328i (or is it IS? coupe? sedan? convrt? details?) its is a mid to high 6 sec 0-60 (depands on manny or auto: regardless should be under 7 sec). you '02 c230 6spd on its best day will do about 7.5sec 0-60 (thats about a car length approx. but 60mph+). get a pulley kit and u will hang with it or it'll be at least down to the driver....may even beat it on a really good day. Also, remember that your car is suprchgred (heat soak?) after a while of driving it will lose some HP where the bimmer should remain pretty even (inline 6). Too bad you didnt go any higher speed (100+mph) as it will make even bigger difference

about this service A sluggishness

i just got my car back from service A and i've been very irritated by how sluggish it feels. I checked my service invoice...they used 0W40, so i'm not sure what it might be. anyone have a thought here?

isn't the transmission/ecu/whatever adaptive? do they do anything that would reset it and cause it to have to 'relearn' how you drive??

As the temps get warmer the car will lose considerable power, as much as 15 HP at the wheels. Get a larger IC if that bothers you. Also, nothing gives you more bang for the buck power than a pulley kit, specially the new ASP pulley for $250. But even then, if you don't get intake air temps under control you'll still be feeling the loss on warmer days (and it's not going to get cooler in the next 4-5 months) or when you start driving more aggresively. Also, it's not just the less dense hot air, the hotter cylinder head temps may cause the ECU to pull back timing at higher rpms.

::Shiver:: I'm still scared of ASP for now, I can't afford pulley shearing. :-\. How are the gains out of the Renntech perfomance package? What's the best bang for the buck out there right now, to get the 230k competing? Also, what's in the Kleemann boost kit? It's cheaper than the Renntech performance 1, with more power? (Other than the ASP pulley, Buell. :-D)

The odds of the factory pulley failing that ASP uses is nill. Then consider that the ring is pressed and welded on before the grooves are machined. If the machining process doesn't break that bond, your belt won't. Personally I think it's stronger than the Renntech pulley because of the press fitting of disimilar metals (steel and aluminum) Renntech uses. Not that I expect either pulley to fail, just think the all steel construction is as strong as it gets. If you feel safe with a alloy hub that's even thinner than the steel hub it replaces, go for it, didn't work for ASP. If it wasn't for ASP, I would get the Vaeth pulley, it's only $1,200 and is made like the ASP, as strong as it gets, all steel and with the factory balancer.

Anyone owned both the older 2.3 liter and the newer 1.8 liter C230 yet? I've driven both and must say that they seemed quite similar in performance, with the newer motor being nicer all round.

If you stick to video games you won't have this problem; and you could drive safely like the rest of us civilized folk.

Wink C230 is not...

a S2000 or Mini Cooper. It's a stylish little MB coupe which get you from point A to point B with MB style.
