upsolute chip vs kleeman pulley kit
well, i'd like to hear why some people are going to go w/ one vs the other. i thought we were all ready to get the upsolute chip but kleeman is getting some good press also.

i'm mostly interested in the switchable upsolute chip to maintain the transparency of the system. but it seems like people are more excited about the kleeman pulley kit now. (how much is it? the v6 kit is $8000)

Kleeman Pulley is a solid gain of at least 35hp 35lb/ft while at third gear is around ~17hp, not bad for 300 bucks, i think chip might be better for reliability as apparently no boost is increased, but in fact stock 5psi boost is nothing as chipped Audi usually run 14.7psi.
I'm not sure the two chip can be used together since the chip is for stock boost and all the fuel timing and stuff are very optimized for the stock boost (assume if it cannot read higher boost)there might be chances of running too lean and denotation

I just don't see how you can compare the two. The chip at best gets you 10HP (forget the 30HP at 120mph, it's not practical HP). I does so by altering ignition timing, moving up the redline, altering shift points for the automatic and basically tweaking the computer to allow the car to hit higher than it's engineered limits. To me this sounds pretty dangerous and if you have a warranttee problem I have a good feeling that they would be able to pull the ECU and see that it was modified and resoldered, even if you put it back to normal unless you buy a very expensive second ECU. Also what if static discharge while removing the chip half fries another chip and it fails 3 months later, who's gonna pay for that.
The pulley on the otherhand increases boost mildly without altering any engine parameters. It provides solid torque and HP across the power band and not just at 120mph. And it's easily reversable to stock assuming you kept the stock pullies.
I think there are ways to overcome the $900 sticker shock by making our own pullies or by putting in a large group order with Kleemann or someone. A CNC machine shop should be able to make billet pullies for a fraction of $900. After all, isn't this the message board that figured out how to get CD Changers for half price.

Keep in mind that by making your own pulleys, you run the risk of coming up with new problems that the Kleemann kit does not have. There is more to a pulley kit than simply an change in size.
BTW, changing your cams would result an average of a 10-20% increase power. That would most likely run over $5000 with install. In comparison, don't you think that the Kleemann Power Upgrade kit is fairly priced? Again, mod's aren't for everyone, and everyone has a different concept of money, but when comparing the Power Upgrade kit to other similiar/combinations mods in order to produce the same result, you're getting a great price.

from talking with the folks over at wheelexperts yhe carlsson pully is not available in the US, so i am 100% behind the kleeman kit.

While I agree that making your own pulley from scratch might be above my head the technology to duplicate simple parts like pullies on CNC machines is a no brainer. That's why it's no biggy, buy one pulley, send to a machine shop and have it duplicated like going to Kinko's. Benzy230 made his own pullies and he has had success with it over a 4 month period (except he crashed, maybe you can have too much HP).
