radar detector location

i have two questions since i know nothing about radar detectors. first off, they're illegal to use in canada, so i cannot leave it in the open. i want to know if a cobra radar detector can be concealed either in the front or rear bumper or in the glove box, dome light, etc.... and yes i've checked the forum and read of an install in an slk and other, but both had different brands and they used a remote "face"??? that goes in the car. is this available with the cobra detectors? thanks all.

okay, maybe i asked too many questions. i know nothing about radar detector placements, so can they be placed behind a bumper or in the glove box and still function perfectly? any brand really.

The legality of radar detectors depends on which province you live in. Assuming yours is one that bans them, your best bet is to find a two-part unit designed for remote installation. I had one in an earlier car; the detector unit can be mounted where it's not too visible (behind the grille), while the audible/ visible warning unit mounts inside in your choice of location.

Putting a regular one-piece unit inside or behind something will reduce its sensitivity to the point where it may not be useful. Mounting a remote detector unit behind the grille practically guarantees that it will not pick up a signal from the rear unless it is bouncing back off something in front. Just thoughts.

do you know of any "cheaper" two-part designs. ebay sells the cobras for around $60. v1 and s2 is way out of my price range. also, whats the deal with laser. is it common or very rare? if its rare, then i shouldn't spend a lot getting the latest detectors with 4 different laser protectors.......or warners!!
