2003 c240 alternator removal how to???

has anyone removed one? tonight I got the red battery/alternator warning screen

My battery was replaced in Jan at MB so Im guessing its my alternator car has 120,000km on it

going to take it in in the am hopeing its the battery but if not dose the alternator come out thru the top or bottom of the engine?? looks easy enough remove belt to bolts (which i sprayed down tonight to free them) but im unsure how it comes out once unbolted

I don't know how different it is from my 05 but I just did mine without instructions - it's easy.
Instead of guessing that it's the alternator why don't you use a voltmeter and find out?
Either way, you might only have to replace the voltage regulator and not the entire alternator.

Removing the alternator:

*** MUST disconnect negative battery terminal***
It is safest to wait a good 10 minutes for the car to power down before doing this (risk of damaging SAM units). That means leave the doors unlocked but closed after popping the hood. Now wait the 10 minutes without getting into the car or doing anything that would wake up the CANbus.

Disconnect negative battery terminal.
Remove belt by releasing belt tensioner with a socket.
Remove two bolts holding alternator (you will probably have to buy the star shaped sockets for this)
Carefully pull alternator off it's two mounts and let it fall face down.
Unbolt and remove the positive wire (on the back of the alternator)
Unclip the wire harness (back of alternator).
Manhandle the alternator out (I had to unclip the aux coolant pump and a few of the coolant hoses to get them out of the way. Did this without actually removing any hose clamps or losing any coolant.)
Install new alternator in reverse.

thanks going to get the alternator in the morning and if its not raining out it in after work

I do have the correct sockets but im worried about snapping my top mount the bolt is really stiff I loosen it then tighten it can get it about 1/2-2/4 way out then it gets really tight I have sprayed it down with pb blaster
