Steering wheel adjustment and lock GONE.

Today, I adjusted my steering wheel for a higher angle so I could sit back a bit more, and when I tried to lock it in position, the lever (I have a manual adjusting steering wheel.) doesn't feel right and at that moment, there's no resistance in the lever and there's no way my steering wheel would stay locked. I drove home with a steering wheel with adjustments on the fly.

Does anyone know what might have snapped? I searched to no avail.

This car is problem after problem.

I haven't seen the manual (non electric) steering wheel adjuster but I think you might need to take off the wheel to get to the steering column. Let me do some research

Attached are how to remove the airbag and then the steering wheel.

It seems like a lot of work and will need resynchronizing and maybe Mercedes STAR (even though it doesn't mention it). Might be better to get a second opinion and a price.

No need for resynchronizing as long as you keep the key far from ignition switch during removing and assembling everything back. One more thing if you try DIY, make sure that turning signal is in off position during assembling, otherwise you can damage cancelation pin and even steering angle sensor.

True that! Thanks everyone.

Basically, Zotz couldn't tell me anything specific and quoted me $200.00, but MB of Orlando took apart my panels and diagnosed it as the steering guide assembly, and threw in a few washers and clips at the list of parts needed while they were at it. My SA said she'd never seen that problem on any vehicle that has rolled into the dealership.

Total comes to $610.95. I'll head over to Zotz w/ part numbers and see what they can do. I had no luck searching for the parts online.

Steering Guide Assembly: 203-462-01-25
Washer/Clip: 001-994-14-45

All that mod money down for a stupid cable. Could've gotten rims and maybe even a drop. Or sways!

Today's the day! Cable will take about two hours. Hopefully not more.

I had to leave the car there. Three hour job, they had to remove the steering wheel and the center console, along with the panels around the knee area to get to the sliding mechanism. Came around three bills. Problematic pre-facelift cars.

white and whiter
first thing I would've done was check with dealer's parts dept and find out exactly which part is responsible for locking the telescoping feature. once you find that out you can just order the parts and probably DIY.

looks like you already had it fixed.
