Air filter for c240

can anyone direct me (from experience) to a good air filter? i have 45k and want something better than stock. K&N, ITG, BMC? anyone have good results with these with a 240 sedan? sorry, kompressors don't count cause they already have a s/c. thanks.

upon further "investigation", i am led to believe that perhaps aftermarket air filters are not good on engines. i may be wrong, but look at it this way. a more, free-flowing filter will allow more dust a dirt particles to enter the engine. and all of us know that dirt in the engine is not good for it. so, is it actually wise to change it? any input....

I had K&N on all of my cars, the last Benz I sold had over 180,000 miles on it 2 years ago, my friend is still driving that car everyday & not a single problem was caused by the filter. I do however want to try BMC on my new car!

I have read that a few tests of airfilters by independent labs, including the British government. In every case the ITG did a better job of filtering than any other filter, including the stock filters. They trapped more particles, smaller particles and flowed better when dirty than anything else.

Disclaimer: I have no connection to ITG whatsoever. I don't even own one.

That would be a hell of a commute since they are a British company.

BMC / K&N / ITG

From what i'm hearing these days, the BMC filters particularly the CDA (Carbon something...) is able to give an approx. 5 hp gain to the C 240 W203. The regular air filtersgive about an extra 2 hp. They are also suppose to sound better. I am still oblivious though on ITG. K&N has always been reputable in all automobiles.

K & N

From what I can tell, normally aspirated engines (not turbo/supercharged) will benefit from changed air filters. I did the K & N but didn't tell anyone, for fear of ridicule. They did make a minor, but noticeable power increase. Supposedly, Randall at Autowerks Express is getting some (BMC?) soon that he says will yield double what K & N does.

I have K&N's as well, and agree with Keista - it's not a huge difference, but you can tell some difference (especially at higher rpm's). I think from what I've read on here (others chime in), you'll really see some improvement with Evosport's UD pulleys. They appear to be the best power mod available for a C240. I've been considering getting them, just wondering if I can install them or have to take them somewhere........

Pulleys

By the time you buy the ud pulley kit (actually 3 wheels and the belt) and install it, it ain't so cheap! Evosport themselves charge for 3 hours labor to do it on a C sedan (only takes 1 hour on a CLK and even less on some other cars) and since they make the product, they know how hard it is to install (or they ripped me off). It does make a nice but subtle difference. It is not oh-my-gosh 50 more hp pavement ripping from a standing start.....

yeah, i would get the pulley's but i can't afford the 30% power reduction to my stereo. the alternator already has a tough time as it is, just imagine if it was less efficient.

There is an easy fix for those who are concerned about underdriving their alternator... Don't use our alternator pulley/belt. No, this does not change the price, but you will still be able to get gains from underdriving your power steering pump and water pump. BrabusCClass and a few others are currently doing this.

Due to the limited available space to change the pulleys in the C Class, it does take 3 hours. V8 CLK's also take 3 hours. Only V6 CLK/E Class Mercedes take less. I pulley puller is necessary to remove the power steering pulley.
