Speaking as a previous BMW owner, just remember when cleaning and detailing, BMW paint is soooooo soft that if you look at it too hard it will scratch, so be careful and enjoy!

How long ago was this? The 135i does not have this problem.. the paint is very durable, actually. Takes an automatic car wash every week for the past year like a champ and the paint still looks amazing.

Wow,... that M3 is really F.O.B. (Fresh Of the Boat),.... so fresh they hadn't even put the tow hook covers on!
You know Eric,... from certain angles that M3 looks like a C-coupe! Ok,.. that's just my pathetic attempt to get you to buy another Mercedes. To ensure you'll stay with this forum since you're one of the most knowledgeable posters around.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Well,... I guess now we're all going to have to buy M3 now,... and follow e1000 to the BMW forum!

a quarter mile at a time
Thanks guys!
So, I picked her up after they got it preped this morning. Keep in mind that in the pics I've posted, the car was JUST off the truck and the shipping blocks were still on the car.
Anyway, I had to be at a meeting all the way up past LA today so I put almost 200 miles on her in the first day!
The car is simply addicting. Steering is precise, and the power is awesome, although, I intend to stick with the break-in procedures and keep it under 5000 rpm for now.
The DCT performed admirably. You don't even notice most of the gear changes, and it even handled being in traffic really well.
Still getting used to all the gadgets. There's a lot to play with.
Mods: So, I have a rough outline of stuff I want to do. I'm going to do some simple stuff for now and then get serious maybe next year after I'm sure this is going to be a good, trouble free car. I've already got some parts on order so I'm not waiting on everything. I didn't like the Competition package wheels but the more I look at them the more they're growing on me.
Ok, so now for my 1 issue with the car. It dosen't ever feel like the car wants to cruise. It's like it always wants to accelerate. Not sure if it's just because I got it today.
I have a really busy week and weekend, so it's probably going to be a little while before I get a chance to post some really good pics. In any case, I'm not going anywhere guys, I'll still be around MBW. Again, thanks for the comments guys.

my buddy picked up a used e46 a year ago, and he also agrees that the M3 engine isn't meant to be driven slow...
it's hard to cruise cuz he feels the car is always waiting for the driver to make the engine work..lol![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
anyway congrats on the car! good choice

Niiice. A long drive to start off your bonding process with your new member of the family.

Sucks that you can't unleash the full revs until 1K miles.
But I've heard mixed reviews with the so-called "break-in" process.
Some people recommend one or two close to RedLine runs for better seal settings, blahblahblah.
And some people are adamant about keeping it under XXXX RPMS =/
Getting to play with new gadgets has always been one of my most favorite things to do! I am jealous!
I think the current wheels are quite gorgeous! Even if you get aftermarket, I'd say keep the wheels so you can swap if you want a fresh pair of shoes sometimes

We want pics now. Drop everything you're doing. Hahaa. jk.
I am not envious, but totally jealous of you right now

(Must find a way to make lots of money in the next few years after college, aahahahha)
PS - Waiting on a detailed review!

You already mentioned you had selected the performance package, however, care to mention any additional options/accessories you selected when "building" the car?
I just checked out BMW's website and the number of options appears to be limitless!

Yes, and that's exactly how I broke in my C350 and that motor has been great. The M comes with a strict break-in process however, so, I'm a bit more hesitant to get it up to the stratospheric rev limit. I am taking it right up to 5k rpms though.

The C63 is epic... stupid, that is. It's out of control and the M3 is so far superior it's almost not even fair to compare them. Power without control is worthless. The M3 is a precision instrument. The C63 is a (quite ugly) sledge hammer.
Eric, such is life with high performance BMWs - they don't want to cruise. The 135i has to be fought to stay below triple digits so I know the M3 must be worse. But damn it's just so much fun!

Man I totally applaud you for your patience... I would have hunted one down and walked 3 days in the snow to get to it because I simply don't like to wait. lol
