Even newer version of chrome key?
I just got a new chrome key fob from the dealership, and I was looking at some pics of other MB keys. this one looks almost the same as the chrome one but its just slightly different. the Panic button is in a triangle instead of a circle, and the lock, unlock, and trunk buttons are slightly smaller.
Otherwise, they look identical, and from just a glance, you couldn't tell the difference.
Just curious because I hadn't heard anything about it. I'll post a picture tomorrow

how much did yours cost? I cant find mine anywhere and am likely going to have to buy a new one. I did have two and gave old one to my gf when i bought the new chrome one but she cant find that either :shakeshead:
any pics? I think I paid like 240 last time I bought that one

oh. Yeah, I was wondering. I think I like the ones before this one better though, the buttons are much harder to push on this one hahaha.
It cost me $241 for both the key fob and the blade. The blade is not in yet though, still waiting for that one.
The key fob alone was like $214, not too bad compared to some other prices I've heard.

dont say that! man now I really want to find that key
but yea same price as here, I think I paid like 213 and change for the old chrome one. That was one sweet key. everytime I think about it, that key is either outside somewhere in the cold, just gleeming away waiting for someone to rescue it, or inside in the dark alone and afraid....damn shame. its been MIA for like 2 weeks now

I remember you on the pre chrome ones you can buy one that is in better shape on ebay and actually put your chip in the casing the part that slips out and has the battery and just slide it into another casing.
I dont think you can do that on the new ones, I cant remember there even being an option to change the battery, I didnt mess with it alot though
I think I saw somewhere that the battery charges when in the ignition, or maybe that was for BMW...and yea I remember when they were online, someone posted that they were cheap and looked helluva lot better then the plastic ones, and everyone started buying them. Then they went up to like 160. I am trying to find that website do you by chance remember where it was, I want to see if they are still cheaper then dealer

That's the older key which I really like. I would just need the entire assembly because that's just the case. Not willing to fork out that kind of money when both my SmartKeys are fine.

The new chrome key looks worse, to me. It reminds me of a Ford key - more plastic-y. It's funny that this comes up, I was just talking to Matt about this the other night.

When I bought my car I was given just one key...since it was a small time dealer who had bought it from an auction, the key given to me was the old kind with one piece streched rubber/plastic for all three buttoms and was showing sign's of breakage (poor deisgn)......I ordred a 2nd key and the one that I got was the one the OP mentioned the 3 buttom key ......really nice key I would say much better design wise too it is a 4 buttom key , the triangular button for panic/alarm, unlock, lock and the trunk door...........I paid $185 pre progammed and all including the key itself...........find out a key making place and ask them for a set as they have some kind of a deal with the dealer/direct MB supplier and they usually can give you better pricing then the dealer; as the dealership always charges premium......hope this helps.............
