I've got a ticking sound from under the hood, its not a bomb (I hope). It might be an exhaust leak. I'm taking it in tommorow, but does anyone have a similar story on a 2002 C230K?

 

When does the ticking happen? They normaly sound funny just after starting but that goes away as soon as the Cats warm up.
It has to do with the air flow durring the warm up period.

The ticking does not seem to diminish as the car warms up. It is more metal taping metal than the 'ting' of cat warming.

 

I know that the c sedans can have a problem with a ticking sound that does not follow the rmp of the engine. It has to do with a purge valve located on the driverside under the hood, in front of the strut tower. Any way this valve can ticking noise because of the flexing of the hoses againt the in fender wall, the fix is simple they replace the mounting bracket. I'm not sure if this service note includes the coupe but it looks the same.
