Easy to spot it that way.

I realize you are trying to fugue it out ahead of time.....sorry can not help with that.

Understood, I thought if they removed the drain bolt for all models of 722.9 post some engine series or year

Anyone use one of these? Seems much more efficient and less work for draining the fluid out of the trans and torque converter. Im assuming since it says it evacuates more than 90% of the fluid that it includes the torque converter as well?

I haven't used it, but seems like a good idea. Hopefully the compressed air won't do any harm. I found this video using this product. Good luck!

Looks nice but a bit pricey

I just got the atf change on my 7g tronic, the workshop just pump in 6 bottles of atf without check the amount of fluid in it by drain out the excessive fluid. Will it create any harm to the gearbox?

That's not how it should be done and it's anyone's guess what the oil level in the transmission is now - I would not drive it at all as is if it was my car.

Post #1 in this thread by johnand has excellent instructions how to do it!

I recently purchased a 2011 C300 4matic and it just turned over 40k miles. I'm new to the forum and have read the posts for the automatic transmission fluid change.
I've heard mixed story from friends and even local independent mechanics not to change the fluid if it's shifting fine.
They said that some people had issues with the transmission after changing the fluid. I'm confused and not sure if the fluid should be change or just leave it alone.
I planned to change the fluid myself or take it to a local reputable shop. Has any members here experienced issues after changing the fluid?

A couple of weeks ago, I did (drain and refill only) this job on my W212. The dealership did this job about 8 years ago for me (car has 42K mi). Called them for a price quote, they wanted $996 for a drain and refill..."no thank you" was my immediate response. Anyhow, glad I did it. I found that the dealership broke a transmission pan bolt and left it as is (luckily I didn't have a leak). Anyhow, to answer your question, zero issues at all post drain/refill. Aside from my 722.9 7G trans, I've also done this on my 722.6 transmission at least 4 times with the same results.

How about reading post #1 in this thread and check if your C300 has 722.9xx 7G-tronic 7-speed transmission or similar model without dipstick or dipstick tube?

Being W204 2011 C300 4Matic, it may have a different model AT, but you should still be able to find help in this forum.

At 40k miles it sounds like it's due for oil change - unless you have proof it was done recently.

Proper or correct new AT oil will not damage transmission, no matter what you heard from friends etc.

I've been reading a good bit about this process and am about to get the materials together (Full kit from FCP Euro) for my 2014 CLS 550, 722.9 transmission with 236.15 blue ATF fluid.
I have 78K miles on it so I am 8K past recommended. I called the dealer and two independent MB shops and they all want $700-$1000 to do this service and ALL of them say they don't do the TC drain and that this is the recommendation from MB.

I can't prove it, but based on all the comments here, I don't think what they are telling me is true.
Why would you put a drain bolt on the TC if it is never to be used??
Also, if they do the pan only drain procedure, it is my understanding that you would get about 5L of fluid, give or take.
Every one of these shops wants to charge me for the full kit with 9L of ATF.
What is going to happen to the other 4L's?
Do I get to take them home??

Anyway, I"m going to do this myself. My neighbor has a car lift so I really have no excuses.
My only hesitation is getting the correct temp for the ATF when determining the final fill level. Many people say using a IR gun on the pan is not that accurate. Others have said that the internal car reading on the ATF (BTW, how do you get to the information on my car??) is also inaccurate. Others say, use your palm on the pan and don't worry about it. So, not sure how to proceed there.
Anyway, great thread. Thanks for all the input.

Some general advice after having done this twice. Plan out every single step carefully and make sure you are prepared (tools, procedure, etc) every step of the way. It can mean the difference between this job taking 10 hours (1st time. completely unplanned) and under 2 hours (2nd time. completely prepared and taking my time)

Oh, and definitely spring for the $200 fluid transfer pump kit designed for this specific job.

Thank you for the advice. I am an "over preparer" by nature. I have rigged up a garden sprayer with a 3/8" clear hose to a ball valve, fitting, then ATF fluid adapter for the pan. I am hoping that this will keep it as neat as I can.
What did you do when assessing your AFT temperature for the proper "spill over" from the overflow tube in the pan?

The first time I used a temp gun on the pan and the second time I hooked an ODB reader up to the car to read "live data". Both ways worked fine as I drove many miles without incident after that. Also, my current car (2014 GLK250) does not have a torque converter drain plug. I am guessing yours will be the same way

Agree. I have not confirmed I even have a TC drain plug. Need to get it up on the lift for a quick 'pre-game' look for that and removing panels or whatever you call the shields they use to cover up everything. Obviously, I'm not a gear head. Just trying to do general maintenance to assure my car lasts.
