help removing rear wheels

Hi. This may sound silly but yesterday, when I was trying to install my mudguard, I can't remove the rear wheels somehow. I installed the front one without removing the wheels but the rear was impossible to install without removing the wheels. So I jack up the car, loosen all 5 nuts, I even use the alignment nut that's supplied. I followed anything in the manual. When I was trying to yank the wheel off, it won't budge. Can somebody explain this to me? I've double checked and the car is lifted enough. I feel embarassed not being able to take off a wheel.

Take 4 lug bolts out, leave one screwed in a few turns. Give the tire a hard kick, it'll come loose. Just don't kick the car off the jack, that wouldn't be too good.

Yeah, the first time if they haven't been disturbed from the factory can be a problem - a little rust will develop on the rotor hat where it contacts the wheel, and you have to give it a good yank, or as noted above, break it loose with a well-aimed [but not damaging!] kick on the tire.

After you've gotten them all off once, it usually is never a problem again.

OK thanks you guys. I gave it a pretty good yank on the first time and I almost almost tip the car and it still won't budge. I'll give it a supercow kick after eating a 20 pound steak next time. Thanks a lot.

I had the same thing happen with one of my rear wheels. But the car was on a lift so I could hit it harder. If you can't do it without pushing the car off the jack, you could try it with the wheel on the ground, just slightly loose. If you have a rubber mallet or something, you could hit the tire in different spots all the way around and try to break it free.

If you've got a jack stand, you can get underneath the car and use the rubber mallet on the back side of the wheel as well.

I'm telling you, just jack the car an inch off the ground, lay on your back, and kick the edge of the tire.

No, not a good idea.

I personally wouldn't drive around with less than 3 lug bolts, and only if they were tight. So assuming they are tight, I don't think this will do anything to free the wheel.

Try to get a pentrating oil and spray it around where the wheel meets the hub. It should get in there and hopefully help the rust break free easier.

THanks for all the help but I finally figure out that I don't need to remove the rear wheels to install the flaps. I just need to lift the car and there'll be enought space to drill the hole and screw the flaps in. I'll just save the wheel removal for the guys at the wheel shop when I'm swapping with my soon to come monoblock VI replica (I'm soo cheap). LOL.
