C230 Coupe Insurance Costs

Hi all,

I'd like to get an idea as to what the insurance costs are in the San Francisco area. I may be moving out there from Montreal and would like to figure out what the difference would be. (can't bear the thought of leaving my Coupy behind! )

I guess prices are heavily dependant on gender, age and driving record. My stats are: Male, 31, with a pretty good record and no claims.

So if anyone out in the bay area has similar stats and could give me an idea of what I'd be looking at for insurance, I would greatly appreciate it.
(If you can also give me an idea of what my Ducati Monster would cost to insure, that would be way cool)

Many thanx

I am paying $1000 / year for $250 Comprehensive and $1000 Collision deductible. That's about as cheap as you can get with State Farm since I have the top rating (no violations, no accidents). I am not sure you will qualify for the "California Good Driver" discount as soon as you move here - but maybe if you stick with the same insurance company (if possible) the local agent may be able to pull some strings for you... That discount is about 20% or so.

I live in the 'burbs. Costs will be higher if you live in the city. Could be twice as high there, if I remember correctly when I lived there.

To get an insurance estimate on-line, you can go to:

State Farm Insurance:
www.statefarm.com

Allstate Insurance:
www.allstate.com

You can enter your personal information and get at least a ball-park estimate for insurance on your car in a specific location.

I am 18/male

No tickets or accidents

I pay $4200/year for my insurace

I dont know anything about insurace and just figured that $4200 is the price I pay for owning a nice car at a young age. I did do the internet quotes for a couple of insurances and they all came back even more that what I'm paying now.

I pay about 2400 a year with 500 deductible I believe. I'm 22. Try to see if you can get your other insurance(s) with the same company its cheaper. Also if u're coming from Canada consider a 6hrs driver safety course that can reduce your insurance by about 10% (good for 3 yrs). Man can't wait till i'm 25....Porsche baby.

I am in So Cali, and paying 1300 a year, for 100/300 body liab, 100 for prop liab.

I have Wawanesa Insurance. I've been very happy with them so far, and they have always given me the lowest rates. You should get a quote from them.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
Smile

MY agent is in San Jose.
I've been with Farmers for years. They were the cheapest of all, even AAA.
I pay ~550 for 6 months.
It could be even less if I went for a cheaper policy and dropped stuff, like rental car, and medical, and UID collision waver.
If I wanted to go cheap I could get it down to ~450 maybe less.
But I have 100/300/100 Liab. and 120 Comp. and 500 collision, and I'm over 40.
But with things today, you need 100K in property damage and the high liability.
So many hi end cars around here.

Also been on there "good driver" rate for years, since I started getting smart and fighting all my tickets about 15 years ago.
(9 dismissals in a row over 10-15 years, saved me thousands!).
Haven't been getting as many these days, thankfully. But so hard to keep my foot off that pedal!
A radar dectector is a required equipment for this car.
I just use a 50 dollar one from ebay, (cobra 9 band) and it works great.
Stupid highway patrol drives around with it on all the time,
bless their hearts. I know where smokey is hiding.
Also I've renamed the cruise control to "ticket control".
1st car I've had with it. Sure is nice when you're on roads with rediculously low speed limits, and high enforcement, or at 2am, when the sharks are circling for anything at all.

I live in San Francisco, I pay about 1200 a year. 100/300/100 and I live in a high risk zip.

Insurance in CA is costly. Life in CA is costly actually.

Now what about registration costs

Thanx all for the info, looks like insurance in Cali is about double the price of Montreal. Wow!

Do insurance co.'s out there give rebates for cars equiped with GPS/Cell traking systems or are they mandatory on the coupe in order for a insurance co. to insure the car? (not the nav systems but those used to locate a stolen car)

Also, what are the registration costs in California?

How did you fight for your tickets? Did you just brought them to court and hope the cops won't show up??

I ate 2 tickets in a week last month! So I need some strategy otherwise my insurance is gonna fly through the roof...

BTW, I currently pay $550/6 mon. in San Jose area.

I took my last speeding ticket to a lawyer who specializes in traffic laws. He cost $85, and he took care of the court appearance. I didn't have to go. He plea bargained the charge to Excessive Noise. The fine is the same (all the St. Louis Gov't really cares about) and there were no points. There are several books and web sites about how to represent yourself in traffic court.
