Cleaning Headlights - inside

Heya guys,

I was trying to clean the headlight lenses with a Refurbishing Kit just to find out that the lenses are tinted from the inside (?!?).
The part that is tinted is at the turning signal area.

Anyone have experience with cleaning the insides of the headlights?
Any easy way to separate the lens from the body of the headlight?
What would I use to clean the tint?

Any thing would help.

Cheers,

Whirl

I believe you can heat the seal and it will become more pliable and let you remove the lens. Of course, they don't intend for you to do this, so you are taking a risk.

I also believe that Nissan sells the sealant that goes back around the lens, or you can try silicon. I have never taken one apart, just things I remember from other threads -- take it as advice worth what you paid for it.

I wouldn't try pulling one apart - unless I had a spare.

200-250 degrees in the oven for 10-12 minutes. Then try to pry it open with a screw driver slowly. If it does not budge then put back in oven for a few minutes and try again. Make sure you put towel underneath so that it does not burn the lights.

What tint are you talking about? is your headlight just yellowing? If so, then you don't need to take apart the lights, it just needs to be buffed out on the front side.

The problem is at the interior side of the lens.
It's like the lens is getting darker from the inside at the area where the turn signal is.

I can assume that this could happen due to a defective turn signal light that got burned off and left some blackish residue on the interior of the lens.

Looking for a way to clean that ... rather not have to replace the headlight when the car fails the annual test.

shoot me your email and i'll send you a DIY on headlight disassembly. It's not for a w203, but the concept is the same. I haven't done it on an oem w203 unit, but im sure there are atleast two screws that you need to remove before putting in the oven.

Also, if you do this, you should pick up some nissan headlight sealant just to make sure your lights don't leak after you reassemble it.

Go on youtube and look for videos.. I forgot what temp you need to set ur oven too. 200-300.. If you have a heat gun that will work 2..

If your doing this please make sure your in ur room. Or ur in a place with no dust whatsoever Ur garage will not do.
