Question SL55 brake kit on a C320?

Anyone done this mod yet?

I was goign to do the C32 brake kit mod but the calipers were huge! My 19's don't have enough clearance unless I get 20mm spacers on the front and I don't want my car looking like a lowrider! The tech at the benz dealer tells me that the SL55 kit might fit in the front. It's lower profile. Also 8 piston, double brake pads and more expensive. I'll have to compensate for the braking by upgrading the rear to the C32 front brake kit.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I've read somewhere on this board that SL55 rotor weighs 44lbs, I think thats at least double the weight of C32 rotor. Anyway...I thought SL55 front brakes are supposed to be bigger than C32 front brakes?? judging by the number of pistons on those suckers....but if they fit they'll look great tho.

I'm pretty sure you would have to get different wheels. The C's use smaller diameter lug bolts than the SL's. Also the offsets are different.

I asked this question before, because of fitment and weight issues, I dropped the idea.

If you think the C32 calipers are huge, you need to actually look at the SL55 calipers. They are absolutely gigantic and cover about a third of the rotor. I imagine both the calipers and rotors are VERY heavy, and your braking might get worse by doing this mod.

And why do you not think the C32 kit will work. There are people on this board that have done it with less than 19" wheels.

Matt....
The problem is with the clearance behind the wheel, from the rotor to the wheel. I was at the Benz dealership last night trying different wheels on my buddy's C32, (He's a MB shop foreman.) AMG monoblocks need spacers to fit too. SL55 18" wheels didn't even fit. Turns out that the AMG C32 brake kit is deeper than the SL55 brake kit because the 4 pistons are longer. The SL55 Brake kit has shorter pistons and is lower profile. I'll have to go back and try fitting my wheel on a SL55 to see if it works.

Or sell my wheels and get wheels with more clearance: SSR's are nice.
Here's a pic of an 8 piston Brembo brake kit on a C320. It's possible... =)

SL55 rotors are directional too!

I'll check pricing and post it soon...

It is not a C320 with Brembo brakes. I believed that picture is Jon's C32 with Movit brakes and 19" SSR GT3.

It all depends on the wheels offset... depending on the offset, will dictate the size spacers you need if you need them at all...

I think Movit is made by Brembo for Porsche then resold by Movit.

Check the ultimategarage.com site - I think he sells that.

The SL55 brakes will not properly fit the C32. The mounting bolt is too large in diameter, and the rotors simply won't fit with the caliper/hub. Not to mention, a Brembo/Kleemann kit with rotors that don't weigh a million pounds will be more beneficial.
