Side window shades

The side window shades--
1. Are they the retractable (roll up) style similar to the shades on the 5 series BMW?

2. How do the attach to the door? Is there some type of stick on or clip on piece to which they attach? Or is the whole thing a 1 piece clip on shade?

Harris 02-11-2002 06:06 PM

Nope. They are NOT retractable.

There are 4 clips for each shade. 2 are clipped on the edge of the door panel, 2 are clipped on the edge of the window frame.
The shade covers the whole rear window including the quarter window. The material is the same as the rear shade.

Just one thing to beware of...it looks quite dark at night. Tough to shoulder check or when parking. You have to get used to it. But definitely a nice addition to yr car if you are living in a sunny city.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for the info:D

BruNo 02-12-2002 06:38 AM

hmmm... can i purchase the side window shades from the dealer? or does it have to come with the car from the factory just like the rear glass shade?

i had a friend go to mb dealer there in the u.s., and d dealer said it had to b ordered with the car, and thus cannot b bought as an aftermarket accessory.

would u guys mind telling me the part description and part no.? i want these side window shades in my tropical countryyyyyyy............thanks. btw, how do u stick the clips on the door pads and door frame???

bagwell 02-12-2002 07:48 AM

I second the motion for the part number(s) and price.

thanks !

Harris 02-12-2002 12:09 PM

It CAN be ordered through yr MB dealer's parts department. It is not an accessory that is listed in the offical MB accessories catalog. It is only listed in the parts catalog which the staff used to check part number. Give me a little time and I'll find out the part number for you guys!

Bruno, you can go & find another dealer, obviously they have no idea of what they are talking about!

Cant really describe HOW to mount the clips in words, just tug it in. Follow the instructions, you will have no problem mounting it.

Harris 02-12-2002 05:37 PM

The rear side sunshades part numbers are:

66691301
66691302

Good luck!

Andy 02-12-2002 05:59 PM

I called and asked and they told me it costs $53 for each. Are they worth it?

If you are living in a sunny city -- yes
If you live in a city where it rains all the time -- no
If you are thinking of getting yr window tinted but heard that the C will leave lines on the tint -- yes
If you think the sunshade will block you from shoulder checking -- no
If you are one of those will want some kind of uniqueness for yr car -- yes
If you dont mind getting a tint with lines afterwards -- no

Andy 02-12-2002 06:58 PM

No 'maybe'? :)
I think it's a 'yes' for me because i was thinking about getting my car tint.
Thanks Harris

All (newer) Mercedes will leave lines (scratches) in window tint since they all use the same (hard, dense) material to seat the window in it's track.

If you want tints, just make sure to use an installer who knows Mercedes, and will replace the factory seals with (softer, less dense) moleskin.

I was looking to add these to my old 2003 C class sedan, but it appears Mercedes no longer makes them. Apparently not a single dealer in the country has them in stock, and I have had no luck finding them online. If anyone on this forum is willing to sell their shades for a reasonable price, please let me know. Thanks!

No luck with this site, I even called them over the phone... There are several dealer operated parts store just like this one that have the shade listed. I tried 2 other websites and was able to place the order, but they all cancelled the following day saying it was no longer available from Mercedes. I guess they list any valid MB part and price, regardless whether they have it in stock or not. Now hoping someone on this forum is about to sell their car, and/or do not care that much about the shades anymore :)

wander,
Depends on how much are you willing to pay for them :D
I've got a pair and don't particularly care about them, to be fair... But I think taking them off will leave some marks on the door panels where the bottom clips are.
They are missing a couple of those little end caps on the tubes (which do not affect the functionality a bit).

VVF, I was actually about to order some aftermarket ones from CarShades at https://www.carshades.com/wp-content...B-CCLS-4-B.pdf. They look pretty darn close to the OEM, but would prefer the real thing of course. It gets really hot in a black car here in FL. Could you please send me a picture of what you mean by the missing end caps on the tubes? Thank-you.

VVF, I looked at another picture online, and see what you are referring to with the end caps missing. Not a huge deal for me, I will send you a message if you are still interested in selling yours. Thanks!

Ok, cool. I was about to send a pic found online too :) Yep, send a pm, let's see what we can work out.

Hi,
I am not trying to block a sale - just possible aggravation.
Pleas note, the PRE and POST facelift units do not interchange. They are unique with unique PNs. They clip into the upper door edge, under the rubber molding at different locations. It has been a few years now, but I recall them not being universal.
Please ensure capability to chassis VIN.

Thanks JC,
Mine look the same as in your first link, but the car is a facelift.
Do you know if the doors have been changed between 2003 and 2005+ ? If not, then I don't see why the shades won't fit a pre-facelift car.

wanderlust360 06-18-2018 10:30 PM

Thank-you, VVF. Just installed them today, and they fit just fine on my 2003 model year. The mesh is of a tighter knit and darker than the electric rear shade, so it can be challenging to see when switching lanes as others have mentioned. But I will leave them on for the Summer for sure!

Awesome. I guess these are from the pre-facelift. Anyway, now we know what style fits both versions.
They are like removable limo tint, blocking out a lot of light.

Also, when you have time, might want to look up "adjust side mirrors no blind spots" on youtube -- takes some getting used to (and makes reverse parking harder:)), but I feel it is worth it overall.
