C230 Door Handle Removal Instruction
The stealer is quoting me ridiculous price for the colored door handle installation, so I decide to investigate how difficult it really is to get the job done. It turned out that, with my extremely slow pace and including documenting the entire process, it only took 15 min!! Here is how...
Step 1: (Start with the driver side) Peel off about 2 pins from the door weather strip to reveal the access hole. Then use a T-20 torx driver to release the screw that holes the IR receiver piece - WARNING: do NOT immediately remove the screwdriver as the screw may fall off!

Step 7: (Passanger side) Repeat the procedures to remove the IR sensor assembly and the handle piece. Remember to tape the tail of the fastening screw first before removing the screwdriver!

Step 8: There is no lock on the passanger side. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the spring holding the IR sensor to the cap.

Installation tips: Make a hook using a steel wire to pull the door latch (inside the door, brass color) out while putting the door handle back, it makes the job a lot easiler! And, use some blue loctite for the screws.

Excellent work! Thanks for taking the time to post this. It will definitely be my next modification! Now, if I could trouble you a bit more and ask you for the part numbers (my dealer's parts guy didn't know exactly which parts I'd need). I have Alabaster White also. Thanks!

I didn't buy the colored door handles though so I don't know the part numbers for those... I'm going to paint the grill this weekend and since the handles are so easy to do I may paint them as well.
I think if you tell the dealer those are the door handles for the Alasbaster White with C7 package, they can get you the right parts. They have the entire door assembly diagram, so when in doubt just tell them to fax you the diagram.

The quoted shop hour is 1.5 hours, same as what I was charged for the 15 min CD changer installation - $165! I'm getting smarter so I won't take their bait this time.

I changed mine out about 3 weeks ago. Bought them through Steve (MBenzNL). Great price, great mod, he even installed them for me!!!
A must have if you were dumb enough to get the car without C7 (or because it wasnt available)

Hello,
Is there any way you can email me the pics of the door handle install. I had copied the link on mbworld and now the pics are not visable anymore. I finally got the door handles from the dealer and those pics were very helpful. P lease email me at mic230coupe@msn.com when you have time. Thank you very much for your time and response. Take care.
