Cluster replaced, now have minor but annoying issues.
First off I'd like to thank anyone in advance for reading this post and posting any replies.
Summary:
Cluster replaced due to faulty spedo guage. (was fluctuating at 70mph. Moving from 70mph to 70-75mph.)
Symptoms:
Time used to be able to sync from the Command system. This option is now gone. MBZ dealer says the option is there but doesn't know why its not showing up.
Alert that sunroof is open no longer works. Used to do a single beep when the door was opened.
Things that have been tried by dealer under warranty (and why I'm scared of them now.):
Reprogrammed the entire Dash which resulted and not limited to:
Having to replace the shift module. Made it so if I put it in Manual mode would go strait to 5th gear. If I tried to put press the gear shifter to - or use the flappy paddles on the back of the steering wheel it would go to 4 and then right back to drive. Pretty much simulated pressing the + button constantly.
Headlight modules on both the driver and passenger sides replaced since they too did not handle some of the reprogramming tricks the dealer was trying to do. Result was the HID system was not auto leveling...
I know the two issues listed above are computer programming issues but don't want to deal with the dealership since its now not under warrantey and I don't think they know what they are doing.
If anyone does have ideas please let me know. For the most part everything is flawless on the car but just want to see if I can fix these on my own.
My background: Computer tech guy so I'm familiar with computer systems and even stand alone ECU's for race cars.
Car background: Started off with RX7's and have had 1st gens to 3rd gens.. and help my best friend out a lot (he's a mechanic at midnight oil motors in san diego) So any wrenching that needs to be done I can take care of it.
But these issues just baffle me since I've not yet really dug into a Merc's electronics system AND for the most part people don't seem to really tear into these as much as say a BMW or Honda or whatever other car you have.
Anyways excuse the rant and thanks for the help. If anyone wants a step by step account of my horror story with the MB dealerships let me know.. I need to write it up but I don't know if I need publishing rights for it since it'll be a novel when I'm done.
