How do they do it? (C230K)
Anyway, I've been looking at MB's competition online, configuring other vehicles in a similar fashion to the C230K. The other vehicles, of course, are competitors in the same power class. I can't believe what I'm seeing! Volvo, Saab, BMW and others are charging at least 5K more for comparably equipped vehicles!
The Japanese cars in the 25K to 30K price range offer, I think jokingly, poor appointments as compared to the MB. Then you move to the luxury Japanese brands, and they're charging in the high 30s for cars equipped in a similar fashion.
This car has to be one of the best values to come along in many moons. And if they're no longer around in 2003, all the more reason to love it! It'll be unique. And all for $28,800

they lose money on every car they sell. like a playstation, only different. just kidding. i have no idea. why ask why? just enjoy!
If you take into consideration, that the C230K competes against the VW Golf V6 or the Audi S3 or the BMW 325ti compact, it is way overpriced.
In Germany, you pay about 2500 US$ less for a Volvo S40 T4 with the same equipment. Even a Volvo S60 2.4T which is far bigger inside and outside, you pay some 350 US$ less than for the little Mercedes.

Here in the States I paid about $4,000 more for my S60 2.4T than I did for my new C230 Coupe. I would not trade for either, one a great family car and the other a great sports car. Turbo Vs supercharged, love that power. Must say that the Volvo sound system blows away the Bose.

I just picked up my coupe this evening. I was expecting a six speed manual, after four whole months of waiting. MB sent an auto instead! Rather than being charged the extra for the auto, the dealer decided to give me the car at the agreed price of the six speed. After driving the triptronic style automatic for awhile, it wasn't all that bad.
btw, your sig is very funny!
Larry, did you get your car from "dealer stock" or was it a cancellation? What dealership did you go to(Mellinium,Catena,Princeton)?
That afternoon Contemporary called me and told me they could get me the car I wanted. They located it Tuesday at the port in Maryland, I think. It was bound for another dealer in the northeast, not sold to a customer yet. I think they had to work out some kinda trade with the dealership for which it was bound.
The car was trucked to Contemporary directly from the port Thursday, and I picked it up Friday evening with my dad. What a stroke of luck! Before joining this forum, I had no idea people were waiting so long for the car with a leather interior.
To those that are still waiting, the car is worth the weight ;0) I have experienced none of the problems other C230 owners have mentioned. The car is perfect through 1,100 miles :0)
Hang in there everyone! The day you pick it up will be a day you'll never forget. I know I won't! It's my first MB, and hopefully not my last.
By the way, the blue '91 Toyota in the background USED to be my daily ride. A slight upgrade here :0)))

Goggles Piasano... I think you got a pretty good deal... I mean the MB auto is not all that bad... I really wonder if I could beat it if I drive a 6-speed manny...
nahhh... I probably kill the clutch trying... :p
hey goodkat - that's where I got mine. Isn't that a cool dealership? They had a dozen long-stemmed white roses for my wife sitting on the hood of the car, along with a bow, and the car was presented in the entranceway. I said to my friend who drove me down from J.C. "look, there's one exactly like the one I'm getting!" Turned out it WAS mine. I thought they just did that every Sunday to greet potential walk-in customers. Pretty classy. Plus they threw in a ton of free stuff - car models, hats, leather key rings, stainless-steel mug, and a leather-bound road atlas. Still got a good price. Ahh, that Mercedes-Benz ownership experience...
