You can use any ME9.7 ECU.

Here is one. Is SI still in business? They should have a copy of your ECU file. Contact them and they'll flash it right back. No biggie. If not then you can try to hit up OETuning or Eurocharged to see if they can program your ECU. I don't think it should be hard if they have an image of a C350. I know OETuning has mine and I'm sure Eurocharged worked on C350s before.

Good Luck

I don't believe you can Karo. As far as I know, once an ECU is mated to an engine and started multiple times, it is not re-programmable to another engine.

You will need a new ECU from the factory.

I thought they could have over written it through BDM? I guess I was wrong.

Update: Through BDM you can wipe an ECU clean and program it. You can't do this through STAR alone. The ECU first needs to be wiped then you can program it with STAR.

Here is an image of the BDM process. This is how they tune the ME9.7 ECU. They program directly to the chip. So my tip to you, contact Eurocharged or OETuning and see if they will be able to wipe the ECU.

Definitely is Vin specific but that means that I can't pull my C350 ecu and put it into another C350. But what's to hold me back from wiping the whole ECU clean and then reprogramming it.

Anything is possible, people are jacking Benz vehicles through hacked ECUs.

my car is a 6 speed man trans,,,,does it make a difference which used ecu i buy??? ie. if ecu came out of an 06 c280 AT, would it work in mine??? the dealer mentioned something about having to have a different ecu flashed with their computer for 90 bux, but 220 for used one and 90 for flash, 310 total i can live with. ive also found Automotive Electronic solutions out of jax, fla. they will check my ecu and then rebuild for 420 or remanufact for 540 as needed , then 90 benz flash for total of 510 or 630 WITH 1 year warranty.

the ebay item mentions " with key" ,,what does this mean?? is it a key/fob that is specific for the ecu , so my old 2 fobs will be useless??

i really did like the extra power of the si tune, anyway to preserve/retreive this w/o paying 450 for new reflash? what to do???

lastly, car has 40k miles , has anyone heard of si tune causing premature ecu failure???

thanx,,,,,,,,,, mike

Well if they wipe it clean and reflash it the extra key you wont need. If they can fix your ecu and still preserve your tune that might be the better route but I will throw this out there. Another member (which I wont name but if he wants to come out that's fine) he also had a premature failure on his SI tune. Now I don't know if this is coincidence or what but he said it was because of his tune.

So with this in mind you have to decide what route you want to take.

ecu fried

by fried i mean this, for a month it will start and run fine and strong for about 6-8 miles, then when the ecu warms up it goes into limp mode, can only rev to 1000 rpm, and message appears " esp malfunction report to shop" and/or "speedtronic malfunction report to shop", or car will run rough and only rev to 3500 rpm. you can also provoke this by giving a good tap to the ecu, now here's the ticker, if you tape a quart size ziplock bag of ice cubes directly on top of the ecu and keep it cool, then it will run for 30 minutes b4 acting up. this is a major pita, but i have been taking short round town trips for a week now using this method. so, the problem is heat and vibration provoked, so a buddy of mine who retired from the air force as aviation electrician and i opened the ecu to look for a problem, ie. loose component, crack in pc board or something. we even looked with a strong magnifying glass, but dnf problem. any suggestions on how to fix or what component is most likely to blame which could be replaced at reasonable expense would be GREATLY APPRECIATED, MANY THANX,,,Mike

WHY ESP MALFUNCTION and went into LIMP MODE..on and off
recently after the ECU tune from Eurocharge...i got into CEL ESL malfunction and the car went into limp mode..

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Eurocharged (jerry) aware of schrick cams and headers.

I did alot of research on google and mbforum and alot of ppl got into limp mode usually after Powerchip tunes or Eurocharged..I have checked:

1) Take it to dealer to check AC not blowing cold air and first time ESP malfunction and limp mode..dealer return with no problem on any sensors (so we might eliminated on bad sensors that cause this) Also dealer indicated ESP mal cause by vibration of custom engine control unit..(no idea of what is this measn). Service Advisor, also told me i need to replace new SAM unit and it will fix AC problem and ECU..(they did short test with new SAM unit and all codes return ok with checked mark on the list). ESP

2) Some member have fix this issue (at first, they thought it was bad coded ECU, and they let dealder reflash and updated ECU new firmware and the issue still came back, and later on they found it was FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL, and they replaced that and never had ESP mal and limp mode again..

3) I replaced the SAM and AC blows cold air but ESP mal on again tonight after half day of the replacement, and went into limp mode with in just 2mins of starting the car (so it was not frayed ECU or something, ECU still cold) ...Im affraid to go on freeway now and if suddenly the car go into limp mode again and my life will be on the edge...

So what do you guys think might have cause this ESP mal and goes into limp mode ?

***Just ESP MAL, notthing else. If one of sensors was bad then at first time checking at STAR, it should point out what cause this right ? So im not worry about the sensors then..But what about bad codes on ECU ?
Service Advisor state it was bad vibration on ECU...but he also said if replace new SAM it will fix...
He also aware of Custom ECU too, (i told him not to flash or touch ECU because it got tuned)

Is it because i removed the foglights and have cause the voltages issue and cause the ESP mal and go under limp mode ? Right now i have DRL wires to marker lamps , and no foglights. Maybe, because cams and headers ? (pretty sure cams timing is right). Or maybe because Collapsed engine mounting ? I got that message from dealer need to fix it but i declined now because i want to focus on ESP mal problem.

I just dont want to spend more money to let them diag more and fix on the problems and it still coming back..They did it once on me..

So Jerry suggest to ship ECU back to reflash to stock..So should i do that or let the dealer check again see what is really cause this issue..or maybe just replace the bad accelerator sensor...

Im so frustrated ... i should had just sell the car and get 911 TT back then when i got a chance...
