M271 Engine

I do not know if anyone else saw this article from MBSPY web site. The article goes into detail concerning the new Mercedes four-cylinder engines.
The chart below is from the article with the new engine first and the current engine second.

C230 Kompressor Sportcoupe
1.8 litres displacement
141 kw
192 hp
260 Nm

C230 Kompressor Sportcoupe
2295 ccm displacement
145 kw at 5500 revs
197 hp
280 Nm at 2500 revs (until 4600 revs)

2002 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor Sports Coupe
Interesting, the new C230 Kompressor is identical HP/torque, is supposed to be lighter (aluminum) but only does 0-60 in 8 seconds, losing some accelleration time from the current engine. What's up with that?

Glad I'm getting the current, proven, faster version. I'll gladly trade the 2-5MPG gain for that.

these are European 192HP (new 1.8L) vs 197HP (old 2.3L) - so there is a power drop of 5HP; same goes about the torque. I gues this explains the 8 sec time...

Torque decreases by 20 Newton-meters which is about 15 lb-ft. I read the 8 second 0 to 62 mph time as being for the current C230k. The 0 - 62 time for the 1.8 liter is shown as N/A.

CGI etc

These new engines, as I mentioned last week in another thread, seem to be most impressive, particularly the CGI direct injection version. The M-B press release posted on the MBSpy site is much more detailed than the information on Autouniversum.de. But all the principal facts were recorded correctly last week.

I sure hope that we see the CGI in Canada, in a sedan body.

The Euro C Coupe brochure lists a 0-100 km/h time of 8.0 s for the present C230K Coupe. I imagine the new (manifold injection) 1.8 litre C230K should be a trifle slower, but it is definitely more economical than the current car.
