2002 W-203 C240 Head-Unit Replacement

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum so please don't flame me

I'm acquiring a 2002 W-203 C240 Elegance (pre-facelift) in the next week and I am wanting to replace the factory head-unit with an Alpine iDA-X100. I am aware I need a face plate for the Alpine head-unit to fit as it is a different size to the factory head-unit.

I have spoken to my local car audio shop (Alberts Car Stereo, I'm in Perth, Western Australia) and they have advised me it can be done however there is a device that must be fitted (some kind of interface with the car's computer) in order for the after-market head-unit to function correctly, and also for the car to function correctly.

Is anyone able to provide me with some advice on this matter? I already have 2 Alpine Type-S subs (in a box) and an Alpine V-Power amp, both from my E46 BMW I sold recently.

Any advice with regards to fitting the aftermarket head-unit to my C-Class would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Jace.

if you want to keep your steering wheel controls for your radio you'll need a kit like the Metra Axxess ASWC. But installing a headunit is like installing it on other cars. A little thing is that your constant and ACC power are kind of backwards on some harness kits. You'll need to tap your constant power to the cig lighter and the your acc goes to the constant power on your OEM harness, if you do it the normal way, your headunit will stay consistently on so youll know if you do it wrong. Also ground wire for MB is brown instead of black. Also your blue wire (lighting) can also be tapped into the cig harness (i has 3 wires, power, ground, and lighthing). Theres a DIY in the DIY section at the top of the forum.

heres the link. If you scroll down the page he tells you how the wires should be. They're reversed on our cars.

Sorry to thread dig, but thought it be better than a new useless thread. If I fit a unit with bluetooth in it can the steering wheel interface allow me to use the phone answer and hangup button on the new unit or do I need to swap to a visseo unit for that as I have the cradle beside the radio.
