w203 getaway...

I driving today through a town with my wife that had a big [Australian] football match. After a match there are plenty of fans walking the streets, some drunk, some angry their team lost.
So I come to a roundabout and these two men walk out in front of my w203, I had to suddenly stop and I naturally honked the horn to warn them of the danger.
The men get out the way an I slowly drive away. Next thing I hear a slam and one of the men is kicking my left side mirror
where my wife is sitting as a passenger.I pull forward a bit and I stop the car ready to get out.
Next thing the same man is about to kick my tail-lights and I quickly accelerate before he makes contact with the car. He gives chase but gives up after a few meters. A witness watching looked as shocked as we were.
The men walk away and I get out to inspect the damage. Lucky there is none at all
, the mirror was kicked from the front and as we know it being flexible, it must have flexed back and adjusted itself again. The indicators light also works fine. Naturally this left my wife pretty shaken up.
I had two choices now; confront these two guys or just keep going. I followed them inconspicuously in my car hoping to get the licence plate of their car or, if they lived close, an address. After a few minutes I decide to just drive off and leave it be. If I kept followed them and got their home address or car registration the police wont do much as there was no damage an no one was injured.

During the heat of the incident, for a split second, I felt a rush of anger that I contemplated putting the car in reverse but decided if I hit the chap who attacked my car, I would be on the wrong side of the law.
Not much point to the story but I just thought I'd get it off my chest. Its sad there are people out there who behave like this. I guess I'm lucky we were in a car and not literally bump into these chaps whilst taking a stroll.
I do admit I am not a strong guy and I always try to avoid violence. Yet even if I were a tough guy, these chaps were big and two against one with a lady there would still not have been a good idea.
PS
After typing this I just realised why the auto-lock doors are so useful. Imagine instead of kicking the car the guy tried to open the door where my wife was sitting.

It amazes me how some people become so seriously unhinged when their team loses (and even when it wins). Here in the states (and Canada most recently) there are sometimes riots in the streets where cars are burned and store fronts are damaged. Sometimes people are injured. All be cause of the result of a ball game (or maybe that's just an excuse which is even more insane!) The crazy emoticon is not strong enough for this situation!
Again, glad you all are ok.
Next time, don't sound the horn .... It only stirs the drunken fools up.

I was with a friend when he was in a situation much like yours. The guy was in the front of the car and he wanted to run him over, but I told him not to.
Luckily a cop saw and took him to the side of the road. The dicks insurance covered the cost, and my friend took it to my shop class and got it fixed. Very nicely done and everyone was happy (exept for the dick)
I am sorry your government grabbed all the guns so someone like you does not have the choice to use deadly force in self-defense. I've seen the 2009 crime stats since the gun grab and they are a very disturbing trend.
Be safe out there.
Now if they break my windows and tried to hurt my loved ones then they will see the shiny oiled up ready to go muzzle of my .45

.
