Ben, Evosport-

There is this large and growing market of MB owners with the 1.8L M271 supercharged engines. We know Carlsson has a pulley and filter kit for it.

Lynn said it best about the 2.3 liter engine. The 1.8 engine is the basis of all future MB engines, just add more cylinders from 6 cyl, 8 and 12! Same pistons rings etc. Same head design etc.

Those of us with the 1.8L M271 supercharged engines are wallowing in our pitty because there are not a lot of upgrades now. We should be smiling because soon we will have lots of toys to work with. Time and quantity are on our side.

Ben,
Why not work with ASP and get some group buys on a pulley kit for the M271. Use steel or very high quality aluminum, include underdrive pulleys for the alternator and the water pump as options. There were discussions on the 320 engine mentioning up to 13HP decrease in power loss, which shows up at the rear wheels!! So many people were telling me I was wrong on the loss of power from the alternator and water pump, but guess what? The loss from the accessories on the M271 engine is almost exactly the same as the 320 engine. Same alternator, same loss. From your web site: "The pulleys were good for 13hp (1st gear), 9hp (2nd gear), 7hp (3rd gear) gains on a 2000 E320. "

Once you get 10 happy customers for the 1.8L M271 pullied engines, post some dyno reports, ,you will get even more customers. With the M271, better intercoolers are a MUST!! Then a better ECU chip can finally be used. For 260HP I would drive out of my way to mix 100 octane Union 76 gas so I would have at least 93 octane.

How about a group buy in ITG air filters?
Again, thanks for the great group buy on the C32 front brakes. The good will is going to go a long way.

Lynn, Buelwinkle,

Actually the MBopar is not a bad idea. Not the drop in 800 pound hemi idea. But Ford, Honda, Mopar, Chevy all have after market hop up books and sales devisions that make lots of money for the companies. They keep the monies that would be going to other companies.

MB has AMG internally, but they just do not get it with americans (and Canadians). We are do it your selfers. Europeans are stuck with more powerful unions, heck they could sue you for taking work away from a union auto mechanic!

If AMG and MB were US savy, they would have parts lists like Mopar. Years ago I had a turbo dodge (1988). There were hundreds of Mopar upgrades, the first thing I did was pay about $250 for a ECU upgrade, a complete new ECU! I still have to stock one in the garage. Why go to Renntech for a better IC, when MB and AMG could sell us one. Why go to Power chip when AMG could sell us one.

Just a thought, my 2 cents worth.

Of course Buell could drop a 1956 Chrysler Red Ram Hemi engine into his Coupe, I know where the an engine is. It is on an air raid siren!
