The glue will probably melt because the grille faces high heat from the engine..

I bought my grille from the same user. There is actually one part of the star that snaps on to the grille... it still stays loose so I used a small clip I bought from a hardware store and wedged it in behind the star and the thing that holds it to keep it in place.

I haven't taken the stock grill off yet, I'm planning on changing the grill once I get my car back.
What about the clips?

Thanks! I'm thinking of running some epoxy around the star with the toothpick and sticking it on. I'm not sure what type of clip I would need to look for, any pics?

You have to take off the clips, there are like 8 or so in total and put them on the new grill in the respective places and it will stay firmly in place.

If you're referring to just the chrome star, then it doesn't involve clips. Just glue it and you're all set. I used epoxy, but take your time since epoxy will yellow from the sun. You don't want it to be visible. I applied a thin coat with a toothpick as well as a generous amount in the center where the thin shaft mounts through the assembly.

Wait what are you talking about? The CL style grill? The star comes attached to it. In order to install the grill as a whole onto the hood you have to put the clips onto the grill. The star is not suppose to detatch.

I think he might have this grille:

I don't think this seller pre-attaches the star.

Yeah, I think the 3 slat version needs to have the star glued (at least mine needed to be).

I have the 3-slat from the same user. I used a clip to attach my star but using epoxy would probably be easier

if you look at the star, there is a way where you put the star and then rotate to snap in to place. the epoxy idea is also a good one. we used the jb welding type on my friends c240 and it is still holding after two years.
