Made an intake for the C Coupe finally..

Finally after a few months of pondering the idea how to connect something properly to the top of the super charger throat, i came up with this..

The engine is MUCH noisier now and i like it. When i switch gears or lay off the gas i get a decent pshhhhh sound, im impressed..

My K&N cone is located all the way at the bottom of the bumper behind the fog light. It is shielded from water, but can also get air from the hole in the bottom pan.

I am pleased with the intake setup, but I need to come up with a better solution for the wastegate valve. It looks too bootleg for my taste, the cambell soup can's gotta go.

I connected the PCV hoses from the stock intake to the new tube. I kno the yellow tubing is kinda ugly but its all i had in that size.

Here you can see how i connected the 90 degree elbow to the super charger throat.

I made 2 brackets out of aluminum that get crimpped when the clamp around the elbow is tighten. Turns out it works perfectly..

I used a 3 inch to 2.5 inch reducer to sit it into the throat, it fits very snugly no air leaks.

So in conclusion, i thought it would be really hard to put an intake on this car.

The parts i used were a ford focus intake kit i got for 55 bucks on ebay and a civic intake pipe. There was no cutting required I am suprized it all worked so nice..

Let me know ur thoughts on this 1. Coupled with teh eisnemann exhaust my car is really noticeable now, almost too loud and obnoixious hehe

did it take anyother parts or was all of that included in the kits you got off of ebay?

I think that looks really good man. How is the performance feel now? Does it seem to pull any harder? Is the throttle more responsive?

It looks great, with the exception of the cambells soup can. Is there anything else a little more refined that could be used in place of it?

Also could you make a list of all the componets needed to "mirror" this project

Regards,
Matt

Well. the wastegate valve just blows air forcefully out of it. The only reason i put the can there was to prevent anything from getting inside or throgh it.

The can amplifies the sound of the valve opening and closing and it sounds great. I will come with with something better tho for it, not sure waht tho. Maybe another 90 degree elbow just so nothing can fall strait in it. No need for a filter on it..

The parts i used was a focus intake kit on ebay, a civic intake pipe from a 99 EX 1.6 L, (friend gave it to me), and I homemade the brackets to hold it onto the sc throat.

The throttle does in fact feel more responsive, and when i fully floor it, i noticed it picks a lower gear now to get me going..

The sound is amazing, some say too loud but from in the car its great, when im switching gears it has a really noisy pressure release sound. Thats my favorite.

I dont have acess to adyno around here so i dont think i will be able to dyno it. Even if i did not gain power (but i think i did) I like it for the looks, and sound.

I want a pulley but im torn what to get, need more power!

Kineda do you have the Eibach's still, if you do PM me, i will make a decent offer on them.

How did you feed the intake pipe in the engine bay... Top down or bottom up, ie did you have to remove the floor pan?

The wastegate valve on my 2003 1.8 M271 has the following part number: A 2002-140-62-60
Made by Denso 128 Japan!

Anyone care to list the 2001-2002 wastegate valve part numbers?

The Mass flow meter for the 2003 has this number:
A 271 141 00 25
Made by Bosch # 0280 750 026

There is another sensor at the mass flow meter, I assume a temperature sensor: A 004 153 33 28

The wastegate valve is the silver tin can in the picture. It's a electronic wastegate controlled by the ECU.

had to remove the passenger front wheel. I reomoved 3 bolts on the fender liner and i pulled it back gently. I slipped the cone filter in here, and coinnected it to the piping. All the piping was fed through the top. It is a little difficult but there is enough space. About halway down to the fog light, there is a seam in the pipes. It is 3 pieces total.

The wastegate on the 02 is made by bosch. I need to get somehthin better than a can on there tho.

I was thinking like a PCV breather filter but i will have to weld up a nice flange. Wont have time to do that for a little.

Im very pleaseed with it, but be forwarned it is NOISY. I like my car loud so its not a problem, but I have gotten more attention lately because of the noise lol

There is no such thing in our engines. Only turbos have a wastegate (which determines how quickly the turbine is spinning by diverting exhaust gas away). The valve used in the supercharged M111/M271 is a blow-off valve that relieves excessive pressure and sends the air back into the air intake.

What else can I cover it with then? I am afraid stuff can fall into the valve when it isnt blowing air out IE when the car is off and stuff. Thats the only purpose of the can i guess.

Any ideas./

Do u mean the full intake or just for the blow off valve?

I keep the stock intake piece in the car with me incase something ever went wrong and i needed MB roadside assistance lol

It takes about 10 15 mins to swap it all back, just 5 bolts.

I dunno what do about the valve tho the can is falling apart.

Put a 180 degee elbow on it so the opening is pointed down instead of up. It shouldn't suck anything in. It is either blowing excess air out when the bypass is open or there is no air flow when the bypass is closed.

Is it possible for you to post a picture of the bracket on the supercharge inlet? Thx in advance.
