[COLOR=royalblue] NEXT SUBJECT!!

Yesterday, I finally clicked over 1k miles to complete the break in period as recommended by the Service Manager. I'll be taking a trip to Maryland for Thanksgiving, and have schedule an oil change a week after I return. That will put 100% Mobil1 in my engine. I talked with the service guys and a few mechanics while I was waiting for my plates to be installed. They all basically told me that sales and service are run as two separate entities (the way it should be). We got to joking around and talking, and it looks like I'll be delivering several liters of my Christmas ale to these guys for the holidays.

I was wondering if any of you C230K veterans noticed any apreciable change in warm up/performance/gas mileage after changing to full synthetic?

By the way, they slotted me in for a CLK 320 loaner...we'll see if THAT happens.

I thought all M-B's using the FSS system are filled w/ synthetic at the factory. Does the C230 have a mixture of synthetic and natural oil?

According to the service guys...MB puts Mobil 1 Blend in new C230's and SLK 230's because of the cast iron block. This being said, I want to get full synthetic into the car after I take a roadtrip next week. FSS recomends changing the oil every 10k miles...but I'm from the old school and believe firmly in changing a new car's oil after ~1500 miles, then again at 5000 and then in 5000 mile intervals (with synthetic) throughout the life of the car. Considering an oil and filter change is $64 at my dealer, it's a cheap insurance policy to avoid expensive engine failure.

I agree with you Rick ! That's basically what I am going to do as well.

Just for info, all AMG vehicles come from the factory with a Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic fill. Late model 2001 and newer model year FSS equipped vehicles are supposedly now comming from the factory with Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic as their factory fill as well.

I have not heard about the "Mobil 1/Dino oil" mix. Maybe MBtech208 can clear this up when he reads this thread.
