limp mode problem, car will only rev about 2000 rpm and then changes gear, (auto) c200 w203 2.1 diesel 2005 model, garage said it was a blocked particulate filter, I fitted new one, did not cure the problem, went back to garage, codes still say it blocked filter, any ideas ?

Might be worth taking a look at this :- C:\Users\john\Documents\Motor Vehicles\Mercedes\Engine\Cleaned my EGR traject; what a mess!!! - MBWorld_org Forums.htm
I wonder whether the Particulate filter Differential pressure sensor has a problem or the DP sensor lines are blocked.
Also the Cats or muffler may be blocked.
Good luck.

Was the car running well before it went into Limp Mode? . Any symptoms ?.
I have not seem a DPF but logic says if you disconnect the differential pressure sensing lines at the DPF the sensor should read no DP & may allow you to run. Check if there is any carbon crud in the tapping points or sensing pipes of the DPF.

Carsy,
yes the car was running fine before and I didn't notice any other issues with performance. When I changed the DPF I didn't blow the lines, but they looked quite clean, at least at the end I could see, the filter I removed was a little sooty, but didn't look badly blocked, do you think taking the sensor out of circuit could upset other fuel or air flow type functions, Iv'e not yet found out what the cost of the sensor would be, but I'am thinking that if its not too pricey it may be worth changing anyway.
Regards

Laser,
Taking the DPF sensor out may affect the combustion settings but just disconnecting the tapping points should give zero DP & may clear the fault.
. I have no experience in this aspect of control. My car is free of it.
I suggest you you put a post in the "DIESEL" section of this forum . There are some knowledgeable & experienced blokes there.
Let us know how you go. I am interested.
