18" wheel question, need your opinion please.

OK so I came across this deal. A set of 18" Moda R6 wheels with some Dunlop winter tires. The thing is that I'm all stock on my W203, meaning 17" wheels with 225/40/17 on front and 225/45/17 on back. The problem is that the Dunlop on the Moda wheels are all 235/50/18. The guy who is selling the wheels is about 45 mins from me and I wanted to ask the smartest person in the world, who? MBWORLD users!, so, am I gonna run into some rubbing because I'm going a bit bigger than stock? you think I might be able to just barely clear my clearance? would you recommend? or should I just use my money on smaller wheels? This guy had the set on an 01 Audi S8.

Thanks for your opinions.

You first want to make sure the center bore size is correct. MB have a 66.6 bore size and Audi have a 57.1 I believe unless he used a hub ring to get them to fit. 18's wont be a problem on a stock suspension. If you look at the wheel thread you'll see guys running 19s on their w203 with lowering springs so you'll be ok. Since they're all the same size wheels I'm assuming, I'd recommend getting 235/40/18 all around. What is the width of the wheels? 50 series on 18s is a lot of sidewall.

Please search the forum and the wheel thread it'll give you all the info you're looking for. Also if you do get them, make sure the center bore is correct and make sure you get the proper length lug bolts so you dont damage you're braking system.

@ Phister……Thanks for the info, yes I know I’d probably need to get some hub rings because of the center bore. I’m not sure if 50 series tire would be OK and that’s my dilemma. With one more inch of rim and a bigger sidewall I might be rubbing on my strut correct? Unless I go with maybe a 35 or 40 sidewall. The thing is that the rims come with the tires and of course living in Chicago I need some winter tires. The guy is also asking $325 for everything and they look like new. I was also thinking to just make the drive and try them on and go from there.

Also, what kind of drop do you have on yours? Are those springs or coils?

I have tein coilovers on my car.

You should be able to get away with 50 series depending on the offset though. Whats is the width and offset of the wheels?

Not sure, the wheels are 8" wide. The guy doesnt know the offset but Imma head out there today to try them out. He sent me a picture of the back of the wheel and it says "8J x 18H2" and "R6.880"

I know that 8J x 18H2 means they are 8" wide x 18" tall, but the R6 means the model is R6 but what about the .880?
