Headunit Advice

Hey guys, i am stuck in a dilema.

I plan on upgrading my headunit since my cd player and my tape broke, so all i have to listen to is the damn radio =(

Now, i do not know whether to get a double dim or a single dim headunit.

The price between a screen headunit and a single one is just ridiculous. Although i feel ricey for putting a single dim headunit in the car, kind of ruins the benz look.

So what should i do guys ?

You should shop around on craigslist or ebay and you find people selling double din for pretty cheap. I got my Eclipse AVN62D used for like a month for only 300. Came with the nav antenna, IPOD aux kit, and everything that came with it new. The seller guaranteed no DOA (dead on arrival) or I could return back in 15 days if it messed up. Just shop around and you can find a good double din someone is selling or an OEM one in the classifieds.

So guys i decided to just get a single dim headunit, an alpine one.

If i buy this kit, will that be everything that i need ? Does the 02 c230 coupe have a factory amp or anything else that i would have to mess with , or is it just a matter of replacing the headunit.

looks like the right kit for your car. Just make sure the harness is the correct one. Also your constant 12v and ignition power are reversed. So you want to tap the constant 12v to the ignition wire and the ignition to the constant. Just read the DIY on the HU install, its on the 3rd page where he shows the wiring diagram. Also to tap into the illumination light a lot of members use the cig lighter harness. I used the cig harness to tap into the ground, illumination, and ignition. Unlike other cars brown is our ground wire color.

also btw, do you know what sound system is in the car ?

Its not bose is it ?

Let me explain. Unless you are willing to almost completely rewire (or pay someone to do so), you won't be able to swap out the regular radio for a aftermarket unit because of the nature of the Bose system. The Bose system sends audio data from the head unit to the amplifier by means of a fiber optic cable. That means if you want to use an aftermarket HU, you need to run wire to the speakers. Unfortunatly Bose doesn't use standard-impedence speakers, so you run the risk of damaging them, which means you need to replace them with standard-impedence speakers (basically any aftermarket speaker you can go buy). It would be better if you got the OEM Nav unit from Steve@MBenzNL (about $2200 last I checked). AFAIK, that just plugs into the Bose system and retains all of the functionality, including the steering wheel controls.that
If thats true, i guess im going to have to pay the shop 125 dollars to do it, because my friend said he doesnt want to mess with bose haha.

Coupes are tricky... bose amp is located in one place HK amp is located in another.

Read this thread it will help you out..

if you have a factory woofer then you most likely have an amp, if no factory woofer no amp.
