MAF Problem (just wanted to share)

Waz up MBWorld!!

I've been MIA for a long time. Recently I had a MAF problem.

My problem started when I was driving around and all of a sudden my car was hesitant and started sputtering (shaking pretty bad). Then I got a check engine light.

When I got home I plugged in my scanner and got 4 codes. "Misfire", Misfire on cyl 3", "maf reading too high" and also "maf short".

Bad maf can cause a misfire. When I was changing my manifold and Throttle body I used CNC Mass airflow sensor cleaner. Just sprayed that on the maf.

What do you guys think, did I kill my MAF due to the CNC MAF cleaner or did I kill it due to the K&N or was is just a coincidence (at 64k miles)??

208 bucks through RMEuropean.

Interesting stuff has happened due to this maf sensor. Thought I should share. My transmission has been shifting weird (stops..shift..then goes). When I really hop on the gas I get this ESP error (I use to get this before and now my tuner straightened out my torque limiter and it's fine" but I'm thinking since my MAF is out (bad) my car gets a lot of air thus making sick power and the torque limiter kicks in.

Another update, I made 227wheel power on a dynodynamics. From their calculation that's above 300 crank. Still waiting on Jeremy to find some more power in there. I did loose low end power. On the graph my low end (till 3krpm) is in the middle of stock dyno run (Jeremy is trying to fix this) and flash dyno run but around 3200 it jumps and at 4800 it just takes a straight rocket jump. I don't mind the low end drop. I can pass cars much better on the highway now. Only thing I hate is the laggy 7G Tronic

From dynodynamics to dynojet you can see a 15% difference. Wheel loss 18%?

hmmmm... thats odd... might be the cleaner.... I haven't heard of the K&N causing misfire. I have heard of it causing a too rich code. Have you taken off the filter and MAF to see if theres oil on it? I've never tried the MAF cleaner so I dunno what it would cause.

I've used the CNC to clean my MAF and I didn't run into any problems. Did you allow it time to dry before starting the car?

On my phone so I can't edit, but check with Cale because I loaned him my can of CNC so he could clean his. Dunno if he actually used it or not though...

Karo, the MAF cleaner should be perfectly safe as long as you didn't completely soak the sensor in cleaner. Recheck the electrical connection.

Thanks everyone for your input. John, I did like an idiot soak the sensor lool But it was fine for about a month. You just gave me an idea about rechecking.

Nate, I cleaned the MAF first and then changed the manifold and TB. So it was a pretty long time before I put the MAF back on (I think it had enough time to dry).

Phi, by K&N I meant (the rumor that the over oiled filter kills MAFs)
