Check engine lights

Ok guys this isn't one of those redundant questions. I've searched and found some info I needed but I have one question I couldn't determine. So last week I had a cel for my gas cap (p0457). Retightened my cap and the next day it was gone. Today it sprung on again. I decided to stop by autozone to check it out once more. Same gas cap code and a new one (p0128) I've been reading that it's commonly the thermostat and I understand that I may have to get that replaced. Coolant fluid is already topped.

Now my main concern is that I have to leave to go out of town tonight, a 4 hr drive with about 240 miles. My question is, will it be safe for me to drive my car there nonstop and back the next day? Also with the thermostat cel, is the temperature guage on my dash still accurate for me to know the engine's temp?

Any word from the experts would be great! thanks in advance!

The guage should be accurate if it's a failed stat. I understand the stat fails open so you should have no overheating problem, if there's no leaking. Carry a jug of water just in case..
