Likely the contacts in your fuel sender floats have gone bad. May be one, may be both.
If you are going to drive the car in this condition, you need to start understanding how many miles to the gallon you get and reading your odometer. Start safely at say 20 mpg, and start doing the math during your fill ups. It could be that one sender thinks one of your tanks is empty and is constantly sending fuel over to the other side of the tank, starving your main pump.
You could simply replace the fuel pumps - yes there are two, but you are looking at $600 DIY, and more at the dealer. The senders are attached integral to the fuel pumps.
If you decide to go the DIY route, insure you have some knowledge about working around fuel vapors. It is no joke, and you can easily get hurt without proper precautions.
Good luck.
