Gloves? Is that something recent or very old? I didn't get any gloves. Now I feel really cheated, first no light then no gloves. I'm switching to BMW.
I remember many years ago, the Datsun 240Z had a light in the engine compartment that had a long wire. I believe it was long enough to give you some light to change the rear tire. That seems like it could be useful. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it since.
Matt's right about not being able to do anything under the hood if your car breaks down. It is a little odd that the company that thought to give you a pair of gloves so you don't get back in the car with dirty hands after changing a tire doesn't think to give you a light so you can see the tire to change it!

I'm thinking of adding an under-hood light to my CLK. I figure a 12v led in a waterproof case wired through a normally closed momentary switch mounted to the hood should do the trick.
Kind of a bummer it wasn't in there from the factory, sometimes I like to go outside in the middle of the night and just admire that hand built 5.5L AMG V8!

I do actually service my car in the garage at night over the weekends. I've actually installed a complete turbo and exhaust in my garage at night (previous car) ... so yes I do work on the car at night, however I also have a 150 watt overhead light and still need a work light.
