Unhappy clutch sleeve?

had my car towed into my mechanic at then end of the week last week. My clutch pedal was sticking to the floor and i would have to physically pull it up to bring it back to normal. My mechanic said it something called the clutch sleeve?
Anyway, parts are 300 and the labor is 700 because they have to take my whole tranny out to get to it...Im pretty bummed but at least i dont have to replace my clutch..

Anyone else have this issue? And if so, did you have any problems with the clutch after? Im still waiting for the call to pick up my baby

sounds like a bad master cylinder or slave. Not sure what a clutch sleeve is unless they are talking about a sleeve inside the bore of the master which is done as a cheaper repair to replacing the cylinder. $1000 to change the master and slave seems like a ton of money. Unless they are replacing the clutch friction plate, pressure plate and release bearing

A master is about $78 and the slave is usually about half that. Should not take more than 2 hours DIY to replace both and bleed

CORRECTION: it turns out that the release cylinder (slave) is situated inside the bellhousing of the transmission on this car (German engineering??) and the gearbox needs to be removed in order to replace it. Thus it will take substantially more hours then the 2 that I mentioned above if it is that one. However experience dictates that it is usually the master that causes the problem

If it turns out that you must remove the transmission, I think you should replace the clutch assembly. Based on its age, your car will need a new clutch someday soon; so pay for the labor once, not twice.

Good advice as so much as to be removed to get the transmission out. However prices for the clutch are not cheap, though for the 240 it is half the price of the clutch that goes into the 230 M271 engine

Friction plate $270
pressure plate $232
release bearing $211

Are those prices for the C240 or the C230k?

thanks guys. I got the car back a couple days ago and it drives like a dream. Turned out it was the clutch slave.

If you have to take the GB out to replace the clutch slave cylinder that is unbelievably very poor engineering.

The 1970 Peugeots had it externally mounted & a seal kit cost peanuts.
