Even when you put in 8.5 quarts it will not read 8.5 quarts on your MFD. I believe it's because about a quart is trapped in the oil filter/housing. Mine reads 7.6 quarts after a drain plug dump and 8.5 quart refill. Driving with too much oil will ruin seals and produce smoke out of the tailpipe.

Reduce oil level warning

Thanks Splinter and Mleskovar for the oil recommendations.....

I went to the auto parts store the other day and got some 5/16" clear tubing to help me remove a little oil. This time when I checked the oil level through dyno is said 8.5qts....(maybe the car had not been sitting for as long as last time..?) I took it down to 8.2qts and this morning when I took it out, as usual, after the engine got hot...the warning popped up again.

...back out to take a little more oil out. This time I'll take it down to 8 and see if that works.

**Next project is to tackle the rust on the bottom of the doors...**

At some point, you're probably going to have to think that it could be the sensor instead.

Rust on the bottom of the doors is normal for 2001-02s; MB used inferior paint. I'd check all of the wheelwells too, and the part where the front fenders meet the bumpers, and don't be surprised if you see some there as well.

Yuuuuuuuuuuup!! Its there too! It makes me so f..ing angry every time I see it. There is a lip on the under-inner side of the wheelwells that collects water. From what I can tell, the rust on the doors is caused by water getting in at the weatherstrip on the bottom third of the doors and coming out of a little weep hole at the bottom on the inside of the door. I'm thinking that if I take off the weatherstrips and silicone around the holes that should stop the source of it.....??

......Thoughts?

You'll only be guessing unless you set a reference point. Dump all the oil and change the filter. Put in 8.5 quarts THEN do the dyno mode check to see what it says and use that number as your "full" point. If the warning light comes on you'll know it's not because of too much oil and you can troubleshoot the real cause.
